Coming Up! Lecture From Living Member Of "Big Six" Leader Of American Civil Rights Movement!

Touro University Nevada invites the Southern Nevada community to listen to a remarkable story from the only living member of the “Big Six” leaders of the American Civil Rights Movement with a lecture and book signing with U.S. Congressman John Lewis and co-author Andrew Aydin.

Congressman John Lewis is one of the key figures of the civil rights movement. His commitment to justice and non-violence has taken him from an Alabama sharecropper’s farm to the halls of Congress; from a segregated schoolroom to the 1963 March on Washington; and from receiving physical abuse from state troopers to receiving the Medal of Freedom from President Barack Obama.

Now, to share his remarkable story with new generations, Lewis presents “March” a graphic novel trilogy, in collaboration with co-author Andrew Aydin and New York Times best-selling artist Nate Powell. “March” is a vivid, first-hand account of John Lewis’ lifelong struggle for civil and human rights. Book one spans Lewis’ youth in rural Alabama, his life-changing meeting with Martin Luther King, Jr., the birth of the Nashville Student Movement, and their battle to tear down segregation through nonviolent lunch counter sit-ins, building to a stunning climax on the steps of City Hall.

BLOG PICK! L Makeup Institute To Offer Consumer Make-Up Workshops!

L Makeup Institute, the newly expanded makeup artistry educational academy, announces its free consumer workshop series for the summer and fall seasons. Open to the public and touching on a wide variety of topics, the workshops will take place from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. the first Saturday of every month and will be led by professional artists.

The workshop series comes in conjunction with the institute’s recent retail area expansion which allows the general public access to brands previously available only to professional makeup artists. October 4 – The Beauty of Color: The often challenging task of choosing the correct shade for ethnic skin tones will be explored with experts offering advice on matching shades with tones.

November 1 – 40s and Fabulous: Tips on how to achieve a younger look at any age through cosmetics. Guests will learn specific makeup tricks and how to properly apply them to their routine to help achieve a youthful glow.
