9 p.m.; Doors at 8 p.m.
Tickets: $23 GA

Before adopting the pseudonym Father John Misty, singer and songwriter J. Tillman first made a name for himself playing drums in a pair of indie rock bands, Saxon Shore and Stately, while attending college in New York City. At that time, he began writing material of his own, citing the music of Nick Drake and Pete Seeger, and the writings of Flannery O'Connor, as key influences. During tours with Damien Jurado, Tilman produced a few CD-R albums and created a ready audience for his home-burned discs. In 2006, the independent Fargo Records label released Tillman's first properly distributed solo album, Minor Works, and Keep Records reissued I Will Return/Long May You Run as a two-disc set the same year. In 2007, Yer Bird Records released Tillman's fourth, more elaborately arranged album, Cancer and Delirium. Although his solo work continued to garner critical acclaim, he briefly shifted focus in 2008 by joining Fleet Foxes. The group toured heavily in support of its debut album, yet, Tillman continued working on his own material, releasing Year in the Kingdom in 2009. In 2011, Tillman left Fleet Foxes to concentrate on his many solo projects, using his pseudonym Father John Misty for 2012's Fear Fun. In 2015, Tillman issued a second studio album under the moniker, the caustically funny and surprisingly sweet I Love You, Honeybear.

Brian Wilson with special guest Rodriguez
Friday, July 10
8 p.m.; Doors at 7 p.m.
$50 GA; Reserved prices starting at $70

Considered one of the greatest composers of the rock era, Brian Wilson got an early start when he formed The Beach Boys in 1961 with his two younger brothers Dennis and Carl, cousin Mike Love and childhood friend Alan Jardine. Heavily influenced by the harmonic blend of Four Freshman and the rock rhythms of Chuck Berry, Wilson went on to write a number of the group’s top hits including "Surfer Girl," “In My Room,” “I Get Around,” “Don’t Worry Baby,” "Fun, Fun, Fun," “Help Me Rhonda” and "California Girls.” After 1967, Wilson relinquished much of his control of the group to his brother Carl in order to focus on other projects. In 1988, Wilson released his first solo album featuring the hit single “Love And Mercy,” a song that often serves as a closing performance for his concerts. Following the release, Wilson continued to write and record music as a solo act as well as a member of The Beach Boys. By 2012, Wilson had officially reunited with the group in time to release That’s Why God Made The Radio, the group’s first album with Wilson in over 15 years. In 2014, Wilson began to tour and record as a solo artist again, with songs he had originally written for The Beach Boys. His latest solo album No Pier Pressure is set to release in April 2015 and features a number of guest stars from a variety of genres.

Known only by his surname, legendary singer-songwriter and self-taught guitarist Rodriguez began performing in bars and clubs around Detroit in the 1960s as the city suffered post-industrial urban decay. It was there that he recorded two studio albums, Cold Fact in 1969 and Coming from Reality in 1971. In the mid-1970s, his music gained airplay in Australia and New Zealand where he became an overseas performer. Rodriguez was unaware that he had reached legendary folk-rock super stardom status in South Africa, where mistaken rumors circulated that he had perished. In fact, South African anti-Apartheid activists and musicians alike were profoundly inspired by his counterculture lyrics. In the late 1990s, South African fans finally sought him out, leading to the unanticipated renaissance of his music career. His story is told in the 2012 Oscar award-winning documentary, “Searching for Sugar Man,” which has given Rodriguez a new measure of fame in the U.S. and throughout the world.

The Venetian & The Palazzo LV Roll Out A New Spectacular Floral Arrangement

To celebrate the summer months, the floral and horticulture teams at The Venetian® and The Palazzo® Las Vegas will embark on creating a spectacular floral installation that is the first of its kind at The Palazzo. The new display, which can be seen May 22 through September 1, was inspired by an image of a traditionally-dressed Venetian woman during the celebrations of Carnivale di Venezia, a festival known for its elaborate dresses and decorative masks.

From inception to completion, the project has taken about two years to complete. Hundreds of hours went into design and art direction, with the computer model alone taking three months to build. The focal point of the installations in the Waterfall Atrium and Gardens and in The Palazzo Lobby will be Venetian women topiaries that will stand approximately nine feet tall. The topiaries were created by a 3-D computer, similar to CG models used in movies.

Melding the world of art and mechanics, the bodies of the topiaries were built with aluminum pieces cut using Computer Numerical Control (CNC) and then hand-finished by a sculptor. The dresses of the topiaries will be built entirely by aluminum plates with slots to hold florist foam and the tens of thousands of flowers that will make the Venetian-style dresses.

A team of 20 floral designers, gardeners, and engineers will contribute a total of 1,200 hours toward the installation of the summer floral display. The installation can be seen May 22 through September 1, with the décor and colors changing throughout the summer months:
For June, a touch of wedding glamour will be seen throughout the display with shades of white, pinks, peaches, and creams.
In July, hot summer nights transform the gardens with jewel tones in hot pinks, purples, and reds.
And in August, to finish up the three-month show, the gardens and topiaries will begin to show the transition into autumn with orange, yellows, reds, and browns.

Located in the heart of the Las Vegas Strip, The Venetian Las Vegas features all-suite accommodations, exquisite restaurants by celebrity chefs and world-class entertainment and shopping. The luxury resort offers 4,028 elegant suites, including standard suites that are nearly double the size of the average Las Vegas hotel room. The Venetian is home to restaurants from celebrated chefs including Wolfgang Puck, Mario Batali, Thomas Keller, Daniel Boulud, Emeril Lagasse and Buddy “Cake Boss” Valastro. The resort also features Canyon Ranch SpaClub; a five-acre pool and garden deck; TAO nightclub; the Grand Canal Shoppes retail and dining mecca; a 120,000-square-foot casino and The Strip’s largest poker room; and more than 2.25 million square feet of meeting and convention space.  Dynamic live entertainment includes concert headliners at The Venetian Theatre;  ‘80s rock musical “ROCK OF AGES;” Motown favorites from the multi-platinum quartet Human Nature; and the all-female comedy series LIPSHTICK – THE PERFECT SHADE OF STAND UP.
