Sunday afternoon, Las Vegas headliner Terry Fator took a break from his show at The Mirage to hit Vegas Indoor Skydiving for some fun with cast members Taylor Makakoa, Ben Harris and friends in tow. During Terry’s session, some of his characters - Duggie, Winston and Emma - took in all the action from the observation desk (look closely and you see them in the windows watching!)…Emma even getting close to the action with a selfie! The group spent an hour in the wind tunnel learning how to maneuver and fly at one of Las Vegas’ oldest attractions.

Ciara Takes Over The Stage & Lights Up Vegas At Drai's Nightclub

Friday night, international recording artist Ciara gave a flawless full-length concert in the middle of Drai’s Nightclub at The Cromwell while boyfriend and Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson danced the night away to her greatest hits, from her original worldwide smash “Goodies” to her latest acclaimed chart-topper “I Bet.”

Prior to the sold-out concert, Ciara took time to celebrate backstage with friends while she was presented with a massive cake commemorating her current tour and the release of her sixth studio album, Jackie.

           

When she hit the stage, the audience erupted in cheers as she began on a high note with the title track from her new album.  The full-length concert featured Ciara with her band, back-up dancers, a multi-dimensional LED light show and an impressive range of her hits through the years – all while overlooking one of the most famous intersections in the world on the Las Vegas Strip.  The sea of fans at the 65,000 square foot rooftop nightclub were treated to songs from each of Ciara’s albums including “1, 2 Step,” “Like A Boy,” “Body Party,” “Oh,” and many others.  Three highlights included an earnest performance of “I Bet,” a heart-pounding remix of “Goodies,” and her own special take on Missy Elliot’s “Lose Control,” which Ciara was originally featured on.  Rarely taking a moment to slow down, Ciara’s masterful and iconic dance moves were in full effect for the entire duration of her show. 

           

While performing in Las Vegas at Drai’s Nightclub, Ciara enjoyed a lavish Boulevard Suite at The Cromwell.  Ciara has another month left of the Jackie Tour, which is her first headlining tour in six years and will wrap up in London on July 5.

Equestrian Events Dominate The Calendar At Southpoint Arena!

The South Point Arena & Equestrian Center will host the 2015 Pacific Coast Cutting Horse Association (PCCHA) Core Balance Derby Classic Challenge, a spectacular cutting horse show, Tuesday, June 9 through Monday, June 16.

The Derby Classic includes many diverse and exciting classes with purse monies to match, which is up for grabs by lucky and skilled winners. In addition, one of the most influential people in the cutting horse industry will be presented with the prestigious 2015 Dave McGregor Award.

Throughout the week, a variety of classes will be offered during the seven-day show, most notably being the esteemed Open Derby with added monies of $50,000. In addition, the $20,000 Added Non Pro Derby, $25,000 Added Open Classic/Challenge and $15,000 Added Non Pro Classic/Challenge will be offered. The new Unlimited Amateur division has been added to the roster of both the Derby and Classic Challenge with $7,500 added to each event. There are $50,000 Amateur Rider events in both age groups as well.

In addition, the Metallic Cat Incentive Fund will return after a successful turnout last year. Within the Open Derby competition will be a $40,000 Incentive purse for qualifying four year olds sired by the Metallic Cat, owned by Fults Family Ranch. An additional $5,000 bonus will be offered to the Derby Non Pro Champion if mounted on a Metallic Cat offspring.

For the second year, the NCHA Open and Non Pro Mercuria will award a total purse of $50,000. The top riders in the Nation’s Weekend Open and Non Pro competitions will be riding for a $25,000 purse in the selected divisions. The PCCHA has added three additional $1,000 NCHA Approved Weekend Open and Non Pro competitions throughout the weeklong event.

The South Point Arena & Equestrian Center is recognized as one of the finest indoor horse facilities in the country. Border Grill Announces Prix Fixe Menus For Restaurant Week!

Two acclaimed chefs, two distinctive locations and one common objective: fighting hunger in Las Vegas. As part of the ninth annual Restaurant Week, Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger will for the first time have the opportunity to double their commitment to Restaurant Week by including both of their Las Vegas locations - Border Grill Mandalay Bay and Border Grill inside The Forum Shops at Caesars.

“Supporting the community has been part of our DNA since we began, and we are excited to participate in Restaurant Week once again,” explains Susan Feniger.  “The great thing about this year is that for the first time we are able to do it from one end of the Strip to the other.  We decided to create two different menus at the two restaurants with the hope people support this great cause twice.”

Famous Singer Visits ELVIS Graceland Exhibition In Vegas

On a recent trip to Las Vegas, singer/song writer Ryan Cabrera visited Sin City’s new tribute to The King of Rock ‘n Roll: Graceland Presents ELVIS: The Exhibition. The “On The Way Down” crooner was impressed, even tweeting, “Absolutely one of the coolest things I've done in Vegas!!” and calling the new exhibition “a MUST see.”

Graceland’s first permanent collection outside of the Memphis, TN, Elvis: The Exhibition opened April 23 at  Westgate Las Vegas, the same hotel where Elvis performed more than 600 record-breaking, sold-out shows between 1969 and 1976 when it was the International Hotel and then Las Vegas Hilton.

So our palates and likes were a little different but something from this sampler will have everyone saying “delicious and fresh!” Plus my dining partner had just returned from a trip to Japan and he did say that the food at Sushi Roku was on par with the Japanese food he had just tried.

Sushi Roku has that covered, they serve a mouthwatering dish that is composed of rib eye steak strips wrapped around fresh asparagus, which is then presented on top of a hot rock, then you pour teriyaki sauce over and it sizzles and cooks just enough to bring out the flavors of the meat, asparagus and the sauce. Also on the menu which is sure to please both Sushi lovers and others is the Shrimp Tempura which is sweet, crunch and tender and FRESH. The tempura’s flavors were light and not overpowering and perfectly put together, not to sweet or thick which some sauces can be.

Octopus Salad

Have you tried a grilled octopus salad? If not then this is a dish that you will leave you pleasantly surprised with the overall taste of octopus. At other restaurants the octopus can be incredibly chewy and not very enjoyable to eat. At Sushi Roku great care is taken in preparing this delicacy. The preparation that goes into the octopus is lengthy as it is boiled, then cooled down, then prepared with seasonings.  Presented with red cherry tomatoes and green tomatoes and radishes it is lightly drizzled with olive oil and shitake mushrooms, truly this salad is an innovation in tastes and textures and will change your mind regarding octopus.

Sake Sampler

They have an extensive Sake and Wine list. Not being a Sake drinker I ordered the Sake sampler which had three grades or as the General Manager Johnny Seo explained the Kubota Kekijyu appeals to a Manhattan cosmopolitan palate, the Setsugetsu Bijin appeals to a Silicon Valley type of palate and the Nihon Sakari appeals to a Cowboy type of palate.  Try the three and decide which one is your favorite! These premium Sakes are clear and as GM Seo says are made with “purified water, rice and love.”  If you prefer a nice glass of wine try the house Sauvignon Blanc which was crisp and fruity.

Mochi Desert

What is a meal without desert? A refreshing and delightful desert awaits you at Sushi Roku, the Mochi Ice Cream, which is a Japanese confection made from mochi (pounded sticky rice) with an ice cream filling. I had the strawberry and green tea mochi’s and they added just the right touch to a great meal. Not to filling, yet sweet and satisfying.   

After this enjoyable dining experience I had the opportunity to sit down and chat with GM Seo and some of my favorite questions to ask someone in the restaurant business are:

What do you like to eat? “Steak I LOVE steak, but now I try and eat it twice a week.”

If you are in the mood for a quick bite (fast food) where do you like to go? “The only quick bite that I truly enjoy is an In-N- Out Burger and fries.”

Singer Joe Jonas & Actor Alan Ritchson Enjoy Blue Man Group In Vegas!

Superstar recording artist Joe Jonas and actor Alan Ritchson were spotted at Blue Man Group Las Vegas inside Monte Carlo Resort and Casino. The two were in town training to become honorary Blue Men for NBC’s new reality series “I Can Do That.” After the show, the duo went backstage for a private VIP meet-and-greet with Co-Founders and original Blue Men, Phil Stanton and Chris Wink, along with cast members. The next day, the two commenced their “I Can Do That” training with Stanton and Wink inside the Blue Man Group Theater.
