Saturday Is World Belly Dance Day! Shimmy Mob Event At Miracle Mile At Planet Hollywood

In honor of World Belly Dance Day, pro and amateur belly dancers from across Nevada will perform a shimmy mob at Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino to raise funds and awareness for The Shade Tree.

 Miracle Mile Shops’ shimmy mob will begin at 3 p.m. on the center’s north plaza and last for about six minutes. On World Belly Dance Day, 2,300 belly dancers will join shimmy mobs in 162 cities and seven countries worldwide. The mobs hope to celebrate belly dance as an art form while raising donations for local abused women and children shelters everywhere. Miracle Mile Shops is the only shimmy mob location in Las Vegas.

The shimmy mob will feature a group of fifty trained dancers performing a choreographed belly dance routine led by Cindy Aragon-Harris, director of Gypsy Nation Bellydance.

"Last Media Standing Event" Bull Riding Event Has A Winner!

Alex, a tall, dark and handsome performer in Thunder from Down Under, was crowned champion in the Professional Bull Rider’s “Last Media Standing” event Wednesday at PBR Rock Bar in Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino.

Anticipation was running high as media personalities and local entertainers competed to last the longest on PBR's mechanical bull to win $1,500  donation to a charity of the winner’s choice. Alex will be donating his winning check to the Nevada Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NSPCA).

Participants included cast members of FANTASY and Thunder From Down Under; former NBA player Jerome "Junkyard Dog" Williams; celebrity magician Murray SawChuck and many other local entertainers and media personalities.

The riveting Professional Bull Riders, Inc.’s “Last Media Standing” kicked-off PBR Rock Bar’s four-day “Last Cowboy Standing” celebration. A weekend of festivities will follow the Last Media Standing competition including more mechanical bull-riding competitions, drink specials and the unveiling of a new ‘Ring of Honor’ wall recognizing the Professional Bull Riders Hall of Fame.

Last night, The Venetian Las Vegas created The Strip’s largest new event for Vegas Uncork’d by Bon Appetit, the international Asian Night Market featuring the world’s best chefs for one night of food, fun and entertainment.

The Night Market: East Meets West celebrated a cross-cultural exchange with an array of epicurean icons, including American culinary luminaries chefs Mario Batali, Daniel Boulud, Thomas Keller, and Buddy Valastro as they united with two of Singapore’s most internationally known culinary superstars, Justin Quek of Sky On 57 and Tewtsuya Wakuda of Waku Ghin, both of Marina Bay Sands in Singapore; and Luke Mangan, one of Australia’s leading chefs and restaurateurs.

“It was such an honor to host this international celebration for Vegas Uncork’d,” said Sebastien Silvestri, Vice President of Food & Beverage for The Venetian Las Vegas.  “With an impressive lineup of influential chef superstars from across the world, the evening was one of the most prestigious culinary events of the year and a pleasure to experience.”

Throughout the evening, party goers feasted on an enchanting menu with spectacular dishes, including dim sum, Peking duck, sea urchin, and wok-fried Maine lobster, while also experiencing Asian-inspired mixology, including world-class sake, Asian beer and wine. Festive entertainment adorned the scenic plaza during the three-hour event, including the stars of PANDA!, the first resident production from China on the Las Vegas Strip, as they performed a taste of their show from The Palazzo Theatre to fascinated revelers.

The evening also featured Chefs Mario Batali and Buddy Valastro as the headlining mentors to two students from Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in the Chase Sapphire Preferred Grill Challenge as they vied for $20,000 in scholarship funds during event.

The talent is set and the amphitheater is ready for another season of music with Clark County Parks and Recreation’s Jazz in the Park concert series, which celebrates its 25th year. This year, the free series will feature the Las Vegas Academy Jazz Combo, which has invited the first four artists to perform with them.

Marlena Shaw is known for her LP Sweet Beginnings on Columbia that contained, arguably, Shaw's finest moment Yu Ma / Go Away Little Boy, which was a medley,containing the old Goffin and Carole King standard, originally recorded by Nancy Wilson. The album also contained the track Look At Me, Look At You, popular on the U.K. rare groove scene. She also recorded one of the disco era's biggest hits - a remake of "Touch Me in the Morning" also on Columbia Records.

Seating for those with picnic baskets, blankets and low-back chairs will begin at 6 p.m. with performances beginning at 7 p.m. at the Clark County Government Center Amphitheater, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway.
