Winter in Venice™ in Las Vegas! Enjoy the holidays Italiano style..at The Venetian & The Palazzo!

The Venetian and The Palazzo Las Vegas are delighted to introduce Winter in Venice™, the first true celebration of the winter season on the Las Vegas Strip. With 49 days of holiday festivities throughout both resorts, Winter in Venice will be the ultimate destination for an unforgettable holiday experience from Nov. 21 to Jan. 8

The whimsical festivities kick off with an enchanting ice skating rink above The Venetian’s picturesque outdoor Grand Canal, welcoming skaters to make figure-eights or glide hand-in-hand with loved ones.  Surrounded by snowflakes, strung overhead holiday lights and an awe-inspiring 65-foot LED holiday tree sitting atop the Doge’s Palace fountain, guests are entertained by strolling candy cane stilt walkers, puppets, jugglers and magicians.

“The holidays are such a magical time for everyone and Winter in Venice offers the perfect place to truly enjoy this special time of year,” said John Caparella, president and chief operating officer of The Venetian, The Palazzo and Sands Expo. “We are inviting everyone, from families and couples to business travelers, locals and Las Vegas first-timers, to enjoy the Strip’s first-ever true winter celebration. Join us in creating a new holiday tradition for years to come.”

Throughout the 49-day celebration, guests will enjoy the finest holiday touches including warm apple cider upon arrival and a sincere “Welcome to Winter in Venice” greeting. Strolling carolers and gondoliers singing holiday classics will set the mood as festive music plays throughout the resorts with joyful winter décor inside and out.

Doge’s Palace and Outdoor Ice Skating Rink
The Venetian’s front exterior will be adorned in winter schemes reminiscent of the fabled city of Venice. More than 2,000 festooned lights will hang over the majestic ice skating rink as nearly 30 larger-than-life snowflakes, ranging from 48 to 72-inches in diameter, surround the façade of The Venetian. Made of recyclable polymer, the synthetic ice rink requires no refrigeration or electricity, making for environmentally friendly holiday revelries complementing The Venetian and The Palazzo’s green initiatives. With gondoliers whisking by and strolling winter characters all around, guests can enjoy the outdoor ice skating rink from 11 a.m. – 11 p.m. daily. Tickets are $19 per person, per 30-minute session, and $14 for Grazie® members.

“Nightly Holiday Spectacular”
Each evening, The Venetian’s Doge’s Palace will host the Strip’s most stunning holiday and light show with the Winter in Venice “Nightly Holiday Spectacular.” Guests will stand in awe as a spectacle unlike anything they’ve seen unveils before them. As the music crescendos, a stunning angel gracefully appears from the Rialto Bridge and lights the 65-foot holiday tree across the way in a magical moment, making the “Nightly Holiday Spectacular” a must-see nightly attraction.

Show times are 6:30, 7:30, 8:30, 9:30 and 10:30 p.m. nightly at The Venetian’s Doge’s Palace.

Top Rumologist for Tommy Bahamas Chosen! Wins $50,000!

Jack Terry
After more than three months of competition and thousands of votes cast via Facebook, Tommy Bahama is excited to announce that Jack Terry from Key West, FL is the first-ever Tommy Bahama Rumologist™.  What began as a nationwide search, soon narrowed down to a Top 20 then Top 10, and finally a group of five very worthy finalists from across the country vying for the coveted new title. The finalists in the competition all submitted an additional video making their final plea for the title, and then Tommy Bahama let the voting public determine the eventual winner.  “This was an incredibly exciting experience for us, as well as very rewarding to see the voting public get involved and excited along the way,” explains Rob Goldberg, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Restaurants for Tommy Bahama. “We embarked on this journey with the hope that we would truly find an individual which embodied everything we wanted in our Rumologist, and with Jack Terry, we found him…and we thank all the contestants for their interest and enthusiasm.  Each of the finalists was amazing, so we knew we would come out a winner no matter who was chosen.”

Now that Jack Terry has become the Tommy Bahama Rumologist, he will begin to experience the unique lifestyle and adventure that can only come from the company with the motto: Make Life One Long Weekend. “We plan on having our Rumologist share his love, passion and knowledge about rum with not only our team, but the public at large,” adds Goldberg.  “We will get to work immediately creating new rum-inspired cocktails, culinary pairings and hosting events at our locations across the country with Jack as the host.”  First up on the Rumologist itinerary will be a trip to Las Vegas the end of October where the Rumologist will take part in a Tommy Bahama Las Vegas rum & cigar event. Additionally, with the holidays quickly approaching, the Rumologist will begin working with the Tommy Bahama culinary team to help create distinctive holiday cocktails and rum pairing menus to be featured at its 13 restaurant locations (New York City flagship restaurant set to open in fall 2012).  Also on tap will be the launch of the Tommy Bahama Rumologist Blog – a place where rum-lovers can follow Jack’s adventures and travels, as well as learn about rum, information on Tommy Bahama cocktails and news and information on upcoming events and rum happenings.

“Tommy Bahama says that life is one long weekend and that's how I live my life,” says Jack Terry, the new Tommy Bahama Rumologist. “I'm just trying to promote that type of lifestyle and I'm lucky enough to live it.  This is something I've been training for my entire life.  Anyone can study rum, but it's the joy of living the carefree lifestyle that makes me different; that’s my lifeline - it's what I've been doing, and now I can create a whole new generation of rum drinkers.  It's amazing to think I can influence others as the new Tommy Bahama Rumologist.”

Since launching the Rumologist search, over 13,000 new people are now following Tommy Bahama on Facebook.  “We are so excited to have so many new people following us on Facebook,” notes Goldberg.  “It is critical to keep growing our audience and engaging our guests with exciting news, events and lifestyle options.  This search for the Rumologist has shown us how important it is to engage our fans. We hope to use this experience as a spring-board for many exciting new distinctive and unique social media initiatives.”

October 14th Featured Artist: Laura Warshauer perfomring live at 8 &10 PM
Jay-Z looked a young Laura Warshauer squarely in the eye and said “You are fantastically talented.” If there’s anything to inspire a budding artist to greater heights, it would be those words, uttered from a modern-day hero in the music industry. Laura was chosen by BMI and the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame as the 2010 recipient for the first ever Holly Prize, given to a young singer-songwriter and performer who exhibits the characteristics of being “true, great and original”. She has opened for Jakob Dylan and Augustana among others. With a distinctive sound and style, laced with familiar vocal flavors ranging from Stevie Nicks to Kate Bush to Imogen Heap, Laura is far from just another female singer-songwriter. She’s inspired by the live experiences of U2 and Bruce Springsteen, and her performance has that something special that people naturally connect with. Her first single “WISHING WELL” was serviced to Triple A Radio throughout the US on July 1ST, 2011 and is currently new and active on the R&R chart and #46 on Mediabase.

Check back each week for a new featured winery, genre matched wine showdown, and featured artist.

If you want to buy a bottle and sit down - every wine bottle will be 1/3 off bottle price. Non-wine drinkers can ALWAYS enjoy $5 premium cocktails, $3 import and domestic beers ($3 Stella...really?).
