The Bellagio Conservatory Springs Into Life With Massive Flower Power!

The weather around the country may still be a bit unpredictable, but springtime has officially sprung inside Bellagio’s Conservatory & Botanical Gardens where it’s always a pleasant 68.4 degrees. The spring display brings a bounty of more than 8,200 flowers of vibrant colors and floral creations now through May 11.

Among the thousands of flowers including tulips, daffodils and lilies, guests will encounter a 45-foot-tall Cherry Blossom tree with a wooden stage nestled in the branches for nightly musical performances. Visitors are invited to stroll through the winding pathway of the oversized tree where koi fish below can be viewed up close on two monitors with live underwater feeds. Forty oversized raindrops sprinkle spring showers throughout the garden overhead.

Guests will be entranced by the sight of more than 800 live butterflies fluttering inside the 36-foot-long greenhouse located in the East Garden. The butterfly species on display originate from around the world including Costa Rica, the Philippines and Kenya. The perimeter of the greenhouse is adorned with an assortment of yellow, pink and white flowers filling out this lush garden.

The North Garden boasts an explosion of color as five aluminum watering cans stream into a pond below as 14-foot-tall multicolored tulips and 22-foot-tall yellow daffodils bloom nearby. Fresh flowers complement the oversized flora creating a storybook setting. Two floral ladybugs embellished in red carnations rest throughout the Garden and 50 butterflies, made from organic materials including green crushed Manzanita leaves, orange carrot flakes, lentils, radishes and rice, flutter overhead.

Flowers in the South Garden peer up at a 22-foot-tall neon green gardening shovel and oversized hand-painted flower pots. Two caterpillars wiggle around a performance stage, the second in the Conservatory, through rows of shrubs including gardenias, hibiscus and bougainvillea. Eight-foot long caterpillars, covered in colored moss and hand-painted faces, greet guests visiting this Garden.

In conjunction with the Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art’s new exhibit “Painting Women,” the Conservatory has created a floral interpretation of Polly Thayer’s “My Childhood Trees” with 1,200 mixed flowers. Located in the Giardini corner, the recreated painting is fitted within a 6-foot-tall elaborately carved frame.
The spring display within Bellagio's Conservatory & Botanical Gardens is complimentary to the public and open daily, 24 hours a day.

LV Entertainers WAKE-UP! The Animal Foundation KILLED 53% Of The Dogs/Cats Last Year!!

Last week it was announced that Jeff Civillico would be hosting and performing at The Animal Foundation's Best in Show event scheduled for April 27th.

Vegas animal lovers have been circulating a petition asking him to withdraw his support from the event citing The Animal Foundation's poor track record at running the Lied Animal Shelter. In less than 24 hours, the petition has gathered over 500 signatures on the website ipetitions.com. The petition states that The Animal Foundation killed 53% of the animals they took in last year, many for minor health issues such as ear infections, superficial wounds, cracked teeth or allergies, or simply being timid or scared, as rows of kennels sat unoccupied. Also noted was the dog auction that takes place at the conclusion of Best in Show, something that is illegal in Clark County and frowned upon by the Humane Society of the United States.

In his defense, Jeff Civillico commented on his Facebook page that he was unaware of the issues surrounding The Animal Foundation, but was still going to go forward with his participation in the event. "I can't deal with the larger issues," wrote Jeff, "I can only show up, as I said I would, to entertain the crowd. I’m an entertainer… That’s what I do."

No Kill Las Vegas co-founder, Bryce Henderson stated, "Most entertainers research an organization before lending them their name, but I am dismayed that even after learning the facts, he still wants to continue to associate himself with this organization."

Many of the people who signed the petition left comments. "Do not support the AF KILL facility. Be on the right side of this issue, your name is on the line," says Regan Lehman of Las Vegas. Diane Norris of Las Vegas writes, "Poor choice on Jeff's part...shows a serious lack of character to not stand for what is right!" Bill Christy, also from Las Vegas, writes, "You are supporting a slaughterhouse, not an animal charity."

Pole Position & NHP Will Hold DUI Public Service Events Today!!

Pole Position Raceway, in partnership with the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) and Sudden Impact Auto Body, will hold its DUI Public Service Message event to graphically illustrate the effects of drinking and driving to bring awareness to the dangers behind mixing alcohol with operating machinery on the St. Patrick’s Day holiday.

The three organizations have teamed up to demonstrate the real-time journey of how alcohol impacts reaction time and impairs judgment. Angelique Gorges and Crystal Thurman have volunteered to serve as crash test dummies as they race during the special event. Beginning at 1 p.m., the women will drive intermittently as they consume alcohol between the seven to 10 minute races. Then, NHP will use a breathalyzer device to track blood alcohol content and lap times will be measured electronically with a high-tech timing and scoring system to show a direct correlation. The experiment will be held on a private closed course, separate from the public.

In addition, volunteers from Sudden Impact Auto Body, offering automotive and collision repair services in Southern Nevada, will join in on the message to create awareness by demonstrating a vehicle after a severe collision, serving as visual aid of the dangers caused by alcohol-impaired driving.
