Driving The Herd |
Just
in time for the 2014 National Finals Rodeo, fine art photographer, Greg
Essayan, is welcomed at Jeff Mitchum Galleries and releases six images for a
wild west inspired collection at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino gallery. A
Las Vegas local, Essayan travels the world capturing images of awe-inspiring
power, drama and breathtaking beauty. Best known for his landscape photography
and most notably for his stunning images made at night including the stars and
Milky Way, Essayan brings a new perspective and vision to Jeff Mitchum
Galleries.
“I am
so thrilled to welcome Greg to my galleries. Not only is he true to the
traditions of classic photography, but he brings a unique skill set for
capturing the night sky and creating truly special celestial shots unlike any
other photographer I know today,” said Jeff Mitchum.
Among
the new images available to view at the MGM Grand gallery is “Driving the
Herd,” an image shot during the Pace Ranch cattle drive; a yearly event that
has been ongoing since the turn of the 19th century. Following Capitol Reef’s
designation as a National Park in 1971, Guy Pace, the ranch’s then patriarch,
made an agreement with the National Park Service preserving his family's nearly
century-long legacy of moving their herd through the land twice each year from
their summer to winter range and back again. Unfortunately, the agreement will
someday come to an end upon the deaths of Guy Pace’s offspring, and along with
it part of ranching history.
"I
am very excited and feel incredibly fortunate to be part of the Mitchum
Galleries family. I have enormous admiration and respect for Jeff both as an
artist and as a human being. As fellow protégés of the legendary Ansel Adams,
Jeff and I share similar values in our approach to the medium. I am very
impressed with the skilled and passionate team Jeff has attracted and their
commitment to helping bring our images to collectors world wide,” said Essayan.
A
Yale graduate, Essayan was fortunate to have been mentored by some of the
greatest artists and photographers of the 20th century including Ansel Adams,
Walker Evans, William Bailey and Irving Penning. His iconic shot, “Anne, 1976,”
was acquired by the Yale University Art Gallery for its permanent collection in
1977, which made Essayan the youngest artist to have work in the Gallery’s permanent
collection at the time. Leaving the life of an artist behind, Essayan became a
very successful lawyer and businessman, only to return to his true passion and
join Jeff Mitchum Galleries decades later. In the coming months, the galleries
will be presenting additional images from Essayan’s magnificent and extensive
portfolio, adding a further dimension to the fine art landscape photography
available for acquisition.
Essayan
is the third artist to be represented at Jeff Mitchum Galleries. The work of landscape
photographer, Aubra Franklin, and glass sculptor, Markian Olynyk, can also be
enjoyed at both the Bellagio and MGM Grand galleries.
