The
Douglas J. Green Memorial Foundation has launched its holiday “Munchies for the
Military” care package donation drive with donations being accepted now through
Sunday, Dec. 7, at Fitness In Motion, located at 9891 Trailwood Drive, Suite
101, in Summerlin. Feel Good Brands has kicked off the drive with a donation of
500 flavored popcorn bags from Popcornopolis, located at Excalibur Hotel &
Casino.
Starting
at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7, volunteers will gather to assemble the care
packages. The date coincides with Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, and donations
will be sent in time to arrive to troops for the holidays as a loving “thank
you” from home.
Based
in Las Vegas, the Douglas J. Green Memorial Foundation is dedicated to providing
care packages to service members during their deployment. Green, at just 23
years old, lost his life on Aug. 28, 2011 while serving his second tour of duty
in Afghanistan. His mother, Suni Erlanger, created the foundation and the
“Munchies for the Military” drive to send care packages in his honor to support
the more than 68,000 troops that are currently deployed.
Community
members are encouraged to participate by donating food items such as breakfast
bars, snacks, nuts, dried fruit, chips, granola bars, candy, soup and protein
bars, or by offering assistance by sorting and packing donated goods. Monetary
donations to pay for shipping and other costs are always accepted on the
Douglas J. Green Memorial Foundation website.
