Award-winning
playwright and director Aaron Posner has teamed with magician Teller (of Penn
& Teller) for a stunning new adapation of Shakespeare’s masterpiece, The
Tempest.
The story
of a sorcerer who unleashes his magic on unsuspecting victims is the perfect
vehicle for a famed magician like Teller. Unlike the typical performance,
Teller’s Prospero will perform astounding acts of illusion on stage that will
make you truly believe he is a powerful enchanter. Adding to the spectacle are
the bluesy, world-weary songs of Tom Waits and the creative talents of
Pilobolus dance company, whose creative contortions caused the New Yorker to
call them “six of the most extraordinary people now performing.”
Teller
himself boasts that it will be the most entertaining Tempest that ever was, and
assures that you don’t have to be a Shakespeare fan to enjoy it (but
Shakespeare-philes will appreciate it nonetheless). Co-produced by The Smith
Center with American Repertory Theater, featuring Tom Nelis as Prospero, this
timeless tale of love, loss, virtue and vengeance is destined to leave you
breathless, bewitched and begging for more.
