The
7th Annual Henry Prendes Charity Golf Classic, held on Friday, July 26 at
SouthShore Golf Club at Lake Las Vegas, raised $16,000 for Henry’s Place, a
camp facility for the underprivileged youth in our valley currently being
developed in Cedar City, UT. From that,
the Foundation will donate a portion to the Injured Police Officers Fund on
behalf of Officer David Vanbuskirk who recently sacrificed his life in the line
of duty.
A
particularly emotional part of the tournament included the annual “Golf Balls
from Heaven” fundraiser, sponsored by Boyd Gaming, where a Metro Search &
Rescue helicopter drops 1000 pre-numbered, pre-sold golf balls over the green.
This year, they held a moment of silence to remember SAR Officer
Vanbuskirk. Other highlights included a
Cocktail Walk sponsored by Southern Wine & Spirits, a zip line sponsored in
part by the Montelago Village Association and a benefit concert featuring
Country Superstars, pianist Danny Wright, School of Rock, Mark O’Toole,
WolfCreek Band, VooDoo Cowboys among others. Henry’s daughters, Brooke and
Kylie, were also in attendance for the event.
“Through
the continuous support of our community, we are finally able to turn our dream
into a reality when we break ground on the camp site in October,” said Dawn
Prendes, widow of Sgt. Prendes and founder of Henry’s Place. “I am truly grateful for Sheriff Gillespie
and Metro’s involvement, all of the golfers who participated, the generous
donations of so many local businesses and the media who help us promote our
efforts.”
Henry’s
Place Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization, was formed in 2006 to honor Metro
Sgt. Henry Prendes who gave his life in the line of duty protecting his hometown
community. The Foundation is currently seeking partners for the building phase
of the camp property. For more information on Henry’s Place Foundation, or to
