Las
Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort (LVSSR) announces that Friday, July 20 through
Labor Day, it will donate 20 percent of ticket sales from scenic chairlift
rides to the Mt. Charleston Volunteer Fire Department (MCVFD). Scenic chairlift
rides are offered Friday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and are $10 for
all riders.
LVSSR
reopened on Friday, July 19 following the Carpenter One Fire and has resumed
summer operations that include scenic chairlift rides, disc golf, hiking lawn
games and camping. The Big Horn Grill restaurant and Bristlecone Bar are also
open during normal summer business hours.
“Though
the fire was miles from the Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort and we were
not affected, we recognize how critical it is that our mountain community be
prepared for natural disasters,” said Kevin Stickelman, LVSSR’s president and
general manager. “The Mt. Charleston Volunteer Fire Department proved to be a
tremendous asset during the Carpenter One Fire. From assisting in evacuations,
to responding to calls and being a much needed resource for concerned citizens.
We want to honor their hard work and dedication to the Mt. Charleston
community.”
Moving
forward, LVSSR remains committed to working with all government organizations
to stress the importance of community preparedness for natural disasters. On July 4, LVSSR ceased summer activities as
a precaution and remained closed until July 19 as mandated by the U.S. Forest Service.
The
Rock the Canyon Rally, Summer Wine Nights and other LVSSR events have also been
rescheduled accordingly. For a complete

About
Mt. Charleston Volunteer Fire Department
The
Mt Charleston Volunteer Fire Department (MCVFD) was founded in 1961. They are
the first responders for medical, brush or structural incidents that occur in
the Kyle Canyon, Lee Canyon and Deer Creek areas. Currently there are 28
volunteers that make up the MCVFD. While they do receive funding for some
equipment and training through Clark County, much of what they need is funded
by local donations. Since the terrain, weather and combustible materials are
100% different than Clark County, much of what is available is not designed for
the mountain. Donations are accepted
through local Wells Fargo Bank branches and Keller Williams Realty Las Vegas
(3100 S. Durango, Las Vegas).
