The
Bullring, Las Vegas Motor Speedway’s NASCAR-sanctioned 3/8-mile asphalt oval
for local stock car racing, will present its popular Night of Fire on
Wednesday, July 3. In addition to its traditional fireworks spectacular, the
program offers up additional thrills in the form of Waterless Boat Racing, a
Jet Car Burn and the “Shocker” Monster Truck.
Waterless Boat Racing begins with a boat
securely attached to a race car. The stock cars will race each other as they
tow the junk boats behind them. Racing in a straight line down the front or
back straightaway is the easy part. The thrills begin when the cars race into
the turns. The boats act as a pendulum and swing wide in the turns due to the
centrifugal force. Many times, the boat yanks the rear of the car, causing the
car to spin out, or worse, striking the car next to it. The driver who
completes the prescribed number of laps first while his boat still is attached
is the winner. NASCAR Bomber driver “Wild Wade” Pearson is one of the favorites
in this event and has promised a special paint scheme for July 3.
The
Jet Car Burn consists of one jet-powered dragster chained to one junk
automobile. The jet dragster – this year it’s the Mav-TV Missile – fires up its
engine and completely destroys the junker, reducing it to a smoldering heap of
sparking, molten steel.
The
Monster Truck “Shocker” will entertain the fans by crushing cars and
freestyling in the infield.
Of
course, a complete card of NASCAR-sanctioned stock car racing is on tap,
crowned by the 76-lap NASCAR Super Late Model feature.
The
highlight of the evening will be a spectacular holiday fireworks display at the
end of the program at approximately 10:20 p.m.
Spectator
gates will open at 5 p.m. with racing at 6 p.m.
Spectators may save money by purchasing
admission tickets in advance by visiting or calling the LVMS ticket office
(702-644-4444) or online at www.LVMS.com.
The
Bullring’s concession stand will feature $1 hot dogs, $1 Coca-Cola products and
$2 Budweiser beer.
Las
Vegas teenage vocalist Kaela Jonson-Smith will sing the national anthem.
