Band Of Horses |
The
Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas closed out the Spring Concert Series at the Boulevard
Pool on Saturday, April 20, with indie rockers Band of Horses, concluding two
weeks of stellar music.
Icelandic
folk-rockers Of Monsters and Men kicked off the second week of the series on
Wednesday. The quartet performed tracks off of its debut album My Head Is An
Animal, including “Mountain Sound” and the hit single “Little Talks.” Of
Monsters and Men got hands swaying and feet moving as the group delved into a
poppy, folk-tinged set.
Electro
group Hot Chip continued the series on Thursday, April 18 with an
unapologetically dance-worthy set, forging the perfect synthesis of electronics
and live instrumentation. Hot Chip layered computer-based beats and poppy,
synthesized tunes with smooth guitar and bass riffs. Powering dancers for over
an hour, Hot Chip’s dynamic set included “Flutes“ from the 2012 album In Our
Heads and the group’s most notable indie single, “Over and Over.”
On
the heels of their 10-year anniversary, Death Cab For Cutie lead singer Ben
Gibbard’s seminal indie side-project The Postal Service played a sold-out show
inside The Chelsea on Friday. Gibbard, with producer Jimmy Tamborello and
singer/songwriter Jenny Lewis played through the band’s first and only album,
Give Up, which was re-issued with two new tracks on Tuesday, April 9. Songs
like “We Will Become Silhouettes,” “Nothing Better” and the iconic single,
“Such Great Heights,” launched the crowd into bittersweet nostalgia, while
simultaneously proving The Postal Service is just as relevant as they were 10
years ago.
Band
of Horses’ signature blend of folk harmonies and midtempo rock n’ roll
resonated throughout the Boulevard Pool, closing out the Spring Concert Series
on Saturday. With an attentive audience locked in on them, the South Carolina
natives brought a little bit of their hometown to the desert with hits like
“Funeral,” “No One’s Gonna Love You” and “Is There A Ghost,” leaving their
indie mark on a handful of Americana-steeped tunes.
The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas features artists
at the forefront of the touring world and emerging artists that will inspire
the next musical movements coupled with spectacularly-designed,
technology-driven venues. Perched high above The Las Vegas Strip, Boulevard
Pool is a multilevel pool experience by day and an intimate outdoor concert
venue with unobstructed sightlines of both the stage and The Strip by night.
