First Friday Las Vegas arts and culture festival and the Las Vegas Weekly are
teaming up and issuing an open call for all creative writers in the valley. The
First Friday Las Vegas arts and culture festival and the Las Vegas Weekly are
teaming up and issuing an open call for all creative writers in the valley. The
Spirit of Giving essay contest is now open for submissions featuring two age
categories (ages 10-17 and ages 18+) with the essays focusing on the spirit of
giving and the unique way each person interprets what giving means to them.
Those
interested in submitting should prepare a 500-750 word essay focused on what
giving means to them and submit it no later than Friday, Dec. 7 at midnight to
contact@firstfridaylasvegas.com. Judging will be held by members of both the
First Friday team and the Las Vegas Weekly team to choose a winner in each age
category.
The
winners will be published in the Thursday, Dec. 20 issue of the Las Vegas
Weekly, with a local artist’s visual interpretation of the story running
alongside the essays. The local artists will be selected through the recently
launched First Friday Foundation. Winners will also be recognized during
January’s First Friday event on Friday, Jan. 4, 2013 inside The Hub at 6:30
p.m., with the winners in each category reading their essays for the First
Friday audience. The two essay winners will also receive additional prizes from
First Friday sponsors.

for ten years. In 2011, just shy of the October nine year anniversary, the arts
and culture festival welcomed a new ownership group, First Friday Las Vegas,
LLC, comprised of Zappos.com executives
Tony Hsieh, Fred Mossler and Steve Hill, as well as downtown developer Andrew
Donner and executive producer Joey Vanas. The outdoor event features several areas
throughout Downtown Las Vegas that showcase artists of all calibers and genres,
