The Jingle Bell Run To Benefit The Arthritis Foundation Is Coming Up

More than 1,000 people are expected to bring the holiday spirit to Summerlin on December 10th when they "jingle all the way" to Tivoli Village, 440 S. Rampart Boulevard, for the Arthritis Foundation's annual Jingle Bell Run/Walk event.  This annual fundraiser aims to fight and
cure arthritis, the nation's leading cause of disability.  The annual holiday-themed event will start at 8:00 a.m. and will have host walkers and runners alike donning their most festive apparel -- everything from bells on bobtails to full holiday regalia.

“This is a fun and festive run that raises awareness and funds to cure arthritis,” said Catharine
Rinehart, Development Director for Southern Nevada. “It is a holiday event for the whole family, even the family dog.  All are welcome to show off their holiday costumes and run, walk, or simply enjoy the many activities of the morning including meeting local celebrities, a kids zone, petting zoo, shopping, holiday entertainment, music, contests, games and prizes.  We are honored and excited that popular entertainer Kelly Clinton-Holmes will once again be Hostess of the Jingle Bell Run/Walk," added Rinehart.

Taking place in more than 150 cities across the country during the end-of-the-year holiday season,
the Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis raises funds to support the Arthritis Foundation's ife-changing tools, resources, science and advocacy initiatives.  The Foundation strives to help people live better while searching for a cure to the number one cause of disability in the United States which affects more than 50 million Americans, or roughly one in five adults.  Contrary to popular belief arthritis is not an "old person's" disease.  There are more than 100 different types of arthritis that can seriously affect joints, muscles, internal organs and the eyes of people of all ages.  In fact, two-thirds of people with arthritis are under the age of 65, including 300,000 children.  More
children have arthritis than juvenile diabetes, cystic fibrosis, cerebral palsy and muscular dystrophy combined.

It affects more people than heart disease, cancer and diabetes.  Arthritis is the nation's leading cause of disability, costing the U. S. economy more than $128 billion every year.  Arthritis isolates, it ostracizes and it doesn't discriminate," said Rinehart,  "It diminishes quality of life and its everyday joys.  The Arthritis Foundation is fighting to find a cure and offer help with conquering everyday battles through life-changing information and resources, access to optimal care, advancements in science and community connections."

The Jingle Bell Run/Walk, which takes place in over 150 cities across the nation on the first two
weekends of December, is nationally sponsored by AbbVie, Massage Envy, and Ferring Pharmaceuticals. "We are most grateful to our national sponsors and we are grateful to our local Las Vegas sponsors as well," Rinehart said.  "Some of our many helpful sponsors include Dignity Health, St. Rose Dominican Hospital, American Dairy, Vegas Voices, DJ Snowman, and  the Zodiac-Dragon.  Locally, in 2015 the Jingle Bell Run/Walk raised more than $110,000 with approximately 1000 participants and volunteers.  Our goal for 2016 is to raise $125,000,” said Rinehart.

To register for the “JINGLE BELL RUN,” please visit www.JBR.org/LasVegas, or call Catharine
Rinehart at 702-888-3266 or email at CRinehart@arthritis.org.

Redwood The Newest Steakhouse Is Now Open At The California Hotel & Casino

The latest debut in California Hotel and Casino’s sweeping, multi-million-dollar redesign – the all-new Redwood Steakhouse – is now open. The completely redesigned and reinvented fine dining concept features a wide selection of steaks, fresh seafood and chops, served in a contemporary, island-inspired atmosphere.

“Along with the numerous updates we’ve made to the California in the past year, we also raised the stakes at Redwood Steakhouse for fine dining in Downtown Las Vegas,” said David Lebby, Vice President and General Manager of the California. “While our loyal customers will still find many favorites on the menu, we’ve introduced a distinctive new perspective on the menu at Redwood to set a new standard for fine dining in Downtown Las Vegas.”

Redwood Steakhouse’s reinvigoration spans from the menu to the room. The Redwood’s new environment features touches of Hawaiian flair throughout, with a design influenced by the famous beachfront resorts of Waikiki. The restaurant façade offers glimpses into the bar and main dining room between a series of handsomely detailed, carved-walnut pilasters. The all-new bar features a custom butcher-block countertop, over-scale chandeliers, and a gorgeous herringbone-patterned wood floor. Visually anchoring the bar, a large vintage burlesque vaudeville print adds an unexpected touch of whimsy to the space. In the main dining room, bespoke, fan-inspired chandeliers hang from high, vaulted ceilings. Timber beams span the ceiling coffers between exquisitely detailed columns, which are accented with swagged drapery panels that further reinforce the casually elegant Polynesian design sensibility.

In the contemporary lounge-style bar, Redwood now offers a social hour daily from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m., with a special menu of island-inspired small bites like the tuna poke nachos, oxtail fried rice, and bao “wow,” a grilled char-sui pork belly served in a steamed bao bun with Thai chili, pickled cucumber, hoisin and baby lettuce. The small bites pair perfectly with a selection of signature cocktails, including the Blood Orange Whisky Sour and spiced Mai Tai. In addition, Redwood Steakhouse offers a robust and attractively priced wine list.

The dining experience at Redwood Steakhouse features distinctive dishes from start to finish. Start the meal with a taste of the sea, such as the seared ahi tuna with a lemon-pepper crust and accompanied by a refreshing green apple and jicama slaw; or with a classic French onion soup, featuring a dash of aged sherry and topped with creamy gruyere cheese and a brioche crouton. Steak selections include traditional steakhouse cuts such as filet mignon, bone-in ribeye and the Redwood’s signature Prime flat iron steak. Enjoy your steak with a selection of savory sauces, served “classic Oscar” with crab, asparagus and béarnaise, or paired with an 8 oz. butter-broiled lobster tail. Specialties include the miso sea bass, a pan-roasted Chilean seabass in white miso broth with bok choy; and seafood Fra Diavolo, featuring shrimp, crab, clams and mussels served atop spicy marinara and linguini pasta.

Redwood Steakhouse is part of California Hotel and Casino’s multi-million-dollar redesign campaign, which includes the recent openings of the Cal Sports Lounge, a sports bar and sportsbook hybrid; Holo Holo – The Happy Bar, an island-inspired bar; the remodeled restaurant space of Aloha Specialties; a floor-to-ceiling renovation of the casino floor; and even more to come.

NOW OPEN! Lucky Dragon Hotel & Casino!

Lucky Dragon Hotel & Casino is now open! Stop by and see the centerpiece of its casino property in Las Vegas. A one and a quarter-ton glass dragon sculpture, surrounded by glass orbs, is suspended above the casino’s center bar, designed to bring luck and good fortune to the casino’s guests below.

Designed and constructed by Preciosa Lighting in the world famous Crystal Valley region of the Czech Republic, the chandelier was formed at the hands of Bohemian Crystal Alchemists who have been preserving the tradition and perfecting the craft of glass sculpture since 1724. The process, which began in May of 2015, was helped along by the hands of nearly 800 craftsmen.

“To make the dragon, the majority of our employees were needed, as individual parts go through production – from the glass-making furnace, through the metal workshop, other production processes and up to shipping,” said Michel Dvorak of Preciosa Lighting. “Safely, we can say that more than 1,500 individual hands have touched each part of this sculpture during the process. It is really quite an astonishing piece, and we are very proud.”

Preciosa worked with Lucky Dragon’s specifications to adhere to the principals of feng shui that bring good fortune to the property’s visitors, from the number of individual glass pieces and dimensions of the sculpture, to the glass-blown orbs and the direction the dragon faces.

“Lucky Dragon in and of itself is something completely unique, not only in Las Vegas but in the world,” said Lucky Dragon Chief Operating Officer Dave Jacoby. “This one of a kind centerpiece of the resort will welcome guests from around the world to our gaming floor and provide good fortune and warm hospitality to all of Lucky Dragon’s guests.”

By the numbers:

12:       The approximate number of 40-hour work weeks put in by the nearly 800 employees of Preciosa Lighting during the completion of the dragon.
13:       The approximate number of days it took to install the sculpture at Lucky Dragon.
288:     The number of hand-blown glass orbs that surround the dragon and make up the entire chandelier.
178:     The number of inches from the dragon’s nose to its tail. That’s nearly 15 feet. The overall height of the sculpture will be 23 feet.
762:     The number of individual customized glass scales that comprise the body of the dragon.
7,000:  The approximate number of miles the dragon traveled from Crystal Valley in the Czech Republic to its new home at Lucky Dragon Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

The grand opening of Lucky Dragon Hotel & Casino is set for Saturday, Dec. 3. The resort is now accepting reservations solely through its website. For reservations, or for more information, please visit www.luckydragonlv.com.
