Join "Taste & Learn" At Ferraro's Italian Restaurant & Wine Bar

October’s “Taste & Learn” at Ferraro’s Italian Restaurant and Wine Bar,  will spotlight exquisite wines from Owner Gino Ferraro’s favorite winemaking region: Italy’s Piedmont. It takes place from 4 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, when guests will enjoy tasting pours of four wines, each accompanied by an authentic Italian small plate.

October’s wines hail from Beni di Batasiolo, a winery located in the Langhe area of the Piedmont. Today, this winery encompasses nine farms, 264 acres of vineyards of which 150 are planted with Nebbiolo—the region’s most important grape.

This month’s wine-and-food presentation includes a welcome glass of Prosecco and the following pairings:
Gavi, Beni di Batasiolo,
Garden vegetables, crema di bagna cauda

Barbera, Sovrana, Beni di Batasiolo ,
Veal tongue, bell peppers gastrique, red onions

Barbaresco, DOCG, Beni di Batasiolo ,
Small pockets of veal ravioli, Parmigiana Reggiano reduction, veal truffle sauce

Barolo, Bussia Vigneto Bofani, Beni di Batasiolo
Beef cheek polenta
“Nebbiolo is not only the finest grape in the Piedmont region—it’s the best winemaking grape in all the world!” exclaims Ferraro. “I challenge anyone to find any wine anywhere else in the world that exceeds the Barolos and Barbarescos that come from this region of Italy.”

Under the direction of Gino Ferraro, Ferraro’s wine collection today rivals that found anywhere in the world. The wine list features 18 wines by the glass, several half-bottle and large-format selections, as well as an additional tasting list including more than one dozen rare labels available in one, three and five-ounce pours. Ferraro’s wine selection places special emphasis on presenting a broad and deep range of Italian wines such as Barolo from Bartolo Mascarello, Bruno Giacosa and Giacomo Conterno; Barbaresco from Marchese dei Gresy and Produttori del Barbaresco; Brunello from Biondi Santi; Amarone from Bertani and Montepulciano d’Abruzzo from Emidio Pepe. Ferraro’s has been recognized with Wine Spectator’s “Best of Award of Excellence” and the Wine Enthusiast award.

Reservations are required and space for this intimate event is limited. Tickets (tax and tip included) are $65 per person. To make reservations, call (702) 364-5300.

Enjoy Some Sake At Sushi Roku! Plenty Options Available For Everyone!

Yesterday was International Sake Day a 1,000 year old annual tradition held in Japan that serves as a tribute to the beverage, and kicks off the country’s sake production season.! If you celebrated by raising a glass of your favorite Sake rest assured that you can always find the best Sake that suites your palate at Sushi Roku! The restaurant is at The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace and not only has an extensive Sake meu but it has some of the freshest tastiest Sushi in Las Vegas!

Another plus for this great restaurant is that when you are dining out with a large group, maybe not everyone enjoys Sushi, well plenty of other options available on the menu!! Try the STEAK!!

Here are some insights from Sushi Roku’s resident Sake Sommelier Eiji Mori.  a 1,000 year old annual tradition held in Japan that serves as a tribute to the beverage, and kicks off the country’s sake production season.

  •   Sake is made from fermented rice, but the rice is not the same grain that one would eat
  •   To make sake, the outer layers of the rice grain are polished off—the more the center is          exposed, the more pure the finished sake will be
  •  The three levels of sake are daiginjo (the most premium), ginjo, and junmai
  •   Far from the often thought of hot “sake bombs,” cold sake is best for pairing with food, especially sushi. Heating can obscure the quality of the sake, and affect the taste buds
  •  While many people liken sake to wine (it is called “rice wine” after all), it is actually more similar to beer, since it is not aged, and made from a grain rather than a fruit

When it comes to pairing sake with food, Eiji gives the following guidance—

  •   Sushi or sashimi pair best with daiginjo sake because the pure, light, and clean notes complement the delicate fish without overpowering it
  •   Acidic dishes (like Sushi Roku’s Salmon Carpaccio with soy truffle olive oil) are best served with the crisp, fruit-forward flavors of a ginjo grade sake
  •   Cooked or fried dishes (such as the Japanese Fried Chicken “Tatsuta-Age”) pair well with junmai grade sake, because it has a bit more body and can hold up against heartier elements
