Habitat For Humanity 100th Family Will Receive House In LV Today!

In partnership with MGM Resorts International (NYSE: MGM) and the City of Henderson, Habitat for Humanity Las Vegas will serve its 100th partner family in Clark County on May 29 with a home dedication ceremony.

Joanne Langston and her family will receive the keys to their new three-bedroom home in Henderson thanks to the support of MGM Resorts and the company’s employees, the City of Henderson and contributions from Habitat’s homeownership program.

“MGM Resorts is extremely proud to be a part of this momentous occasion in helping to instill a sense of great pride for Joanne and her family, as they embark on their new path of homeownership,” said Phyllis A. James, Executive Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer of MGM Resorts International, and Habitat Las Vegas Board Member. “Affordable housing for individuals and families is one of the most basic yet most pressing needs in our nation, and it is an honor to work with Habitat Las Vegas to serve families in our local community in this vital way.”

This is the seventh Habitat Las Vegas house sponsored by MGM Resorts. In addition to providing a generous donation for the construction, the company’s employees have dedicated many volunteer hours to complete the home. The funding for the land was received from the City of Henderson via grants from the Low Income Housing Trust Fund (LIHTF) and the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG).

“This is a tremendous milestone as we serve our 100th Habitat partner family in Clark County. Through our homeownership program, Joanne will be able to provide stability and financial security for her and her family,” adds Meg Delor, Executive Director of Habitat Las Vegas. “With the continued support and generosity from our sponsors, volunteers, board of directors and staff, we are helping to significantly improve the lives of individuals within our community.”

“This Habitat home, along with five additional such homes slated for completion by end of June, is an important step forward in the city’s ongoing efforts to revitalize the Pittman region,” said Mayor Andy Hafen. “These homes will help to reinvigorate the neighborhood and will welcome new homeowners who share a strong sense of community pride.”

Since 1991, Habitat Las Vegas has provided simple, decent and affordable housing for low-income families in need, in addition to helping to transform communities throughout Southern Nevada as part of the organization’s neighborhood revitalization efforts.

KESHA, DJ Pauly D Topped Off Wild Party For MDW 2015 At Hard Rock Hotel Vegas

KESHA
Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Las Vegas celebrated Memorial Day Weekend in true Sin City fashion with nonstop parties at REHAB and Body English Nightclub.

Singer and songwriter Kesha prepped for her concert with a relaxing spa day at Reliquary Water Sanctuary, Spa & Salon on Friday, May 22; she was pampered from head to toe with a body wrap and massage at the hotel’s tranquil retreat. The next day, the star showed off her new green hair during a dazzling (literally) performance at REHAB, Las Vegas’ original dayclub, on Saturday, May 23. Kesha started her explosive set with “We R Who We R,” followed by “Your Love Is My Drug,” as she was showered with glitter. Accompanying her on stage were dancers dressed as a rabbit, tiger and chicken, and REHAB’s servers added to the fun by throwing inflatable guitars and radios into the crowd. Fans went wild as she wrapped up her performance with hits like “Tik Tok,” “Timber” and “Die Young.”

DJ Pauly D
That evening, DJ Pauly D turned up the noise at Body English Nightclub. Fans screamed as he hit the stage and took over the turntables. “Scream if you love Las Vegas!” yelled the reality TV star to hundreds of shouting fans. As the beat dropped, confetti showered over the dance floor and Body English dancers passed out foam glow sticks to the attendees. Among the partiers were Hard Rock Hotel’s resident DJ, Dee Jay Silver, and professional mix martial artist, John Dodson.

Jump Smokers
On Sunday, May 24, REHAB was pumping yet again with excitement as Chicago house music acts Jump Smokers and Bad Boy Bill took over the poolside stage.

Plan Ahead! First Friday Is Coming Up on 6/5/15

First Friday Las Vegas, one of the largest arts and culture festivals in the Western United States, has a new footprint this June. First Friday is moving north to simplified, yet robust activation with all the favorite festival elements including the Art Walk, Artisan Bazaar, Fashion Alley, KidZone, Eatery, Main Stage, Dance DepARTment and Guerilla Kages. While First Friday is an event celebrated throughout the downtown area including the Arts District, Fremont East, and in between, the production that First Friday Las Vegas LLC brings to life will move to just North of Charleston, encompassing the area between Charleston Blvd. to Coolidge Ave. and Casino Center Blvd. to Main St.

This new footprint allows First Friday to not only reduce costs while keeping all of the activations event-goers have come to know and love, but also allows for reduced use of public right of ways including both roadways and walkways. On the South side of Charleston Blvd. and on Commerce St., many of the activities and destinations art lovers are used to seeing at First Friday will still be active and full of artists and vendors including Blackbird Studios, Sin City Pickers, Reclaimed Art Supplies, City of the World Gallery, The Funkhouse, Cornerstone Gallery, Raw Remedies, neighboring galleries on Colorado Ave. and 3rd Street, Photo Bang Bang on Imperial, and many more. With the lack of street closures in these areas, festival attendees will have easier access to parking in front of these locations.

Summertime in Las Vegas also marks the celebration of music, freedom and art as exemplified in the next three themes for First Friday – June’s “Music is Beautiful,” July’s “Heroes” and August’s “Art Battles.”

Beginning Friday, June 5, First Friday Las Vegas presents “Music is Beautiful,” an auditory celebration focusing on the diverse talent in the city. Over the past two weeks, musicians of all genres have been vying for the opportunity to perform at one of eight downtown venues. Event-goers can explore all of downtown from the First Friday Main Stage to Container Park as Vegas’ best musical talent performs. Other venues include the Dance DepARTment, Bunkhouse, Commonwealth, Artifice, Inspire Theater and the Velveteen Rabbit. Crowds will have a chance to support and cheer for their favorite musical acts to help propel them to join the line-up at the 2015 Life is Beautiful Festival. Presenting sponsor Don Julio Tequila hosts tequila tastings for First Friday attendees 21 and over at exclusive lounges throughout the event. Best Buddies invites all to make their own instruments, while Another Joy Foundation presents interactive musical fun. Health Plan of Nevada & Southwest Medical Association will host live karaoke. This June, KidZone is sponsored by Zero Fatalities, providing demonstrations in pedestrian and bike safety, helmet checks and CPR demonstrations.

First Friday Las Vegas would like to thank all event sponsors including Don Julio Tequila, Vegas.com, Health Plan of Nevada & Southwest Medical Association, Zero Fatalities, Open Top Sightseeing, Another Joy Foundation, Best Buddies and Epyk Entertainment.
