Cosmopof Convention Has Interesting Celeb Panel For The PBA Business Forum

John Paul DeJoria, billionaire businessman and philanthropist best known as a co-founder of the

Paul Mitchell line of hair products and The Patrón Spirits Company, will join fellow entrepreneur Mark Cuban at this year’s PBA Business Forum as part of PBA Beauty Week. The 13th edition of Cosmoprof North America (CPNA), hosts of PBA Beauty Week, will take place on July 12-14, 2015 at Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, NV. Cuban’s participation was officially announced by CPNA and PBA in February of 2015.

CPNA and PBA have not yet released details about what attendees can expect from DeJoria and Cuban but said that the two renowned business leaders will be paired together to debut a new program. “Although we can’t share additional details at this time, we can guarantee that what we have planned is going to provide the beauty industry an opportunity and platform that is truly unmatched,” said Scott Buchanan, chairman of PBA. “John Paul and Mark’s combined achievements will bring an elevated level of expertise to our event.”

Top Level Drag Racing Returns To The LVMS This Week-End

Fans who didn’t get their fill of top-level drag racing at the SummitRacing.com NHRA Nationals are in luck this weekend, as The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway is hosting an NHRA Division 7 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event Friday through Sunday.

More than 500 drivers, many of them locals from the Las Vegas area or Nevada residents, will square off in the three-day event to race a quarter mile for cash and glory at one of drag racing’s most acclaimed tracks. This weekend’s racing schedule will feature cars and dragsters in 11 different classes, from Super Comp, Super Stock and Super Gas, to Top Alcohol Funny Car, Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Sportsman.

Fans can also enjoy racing in Super Street, Sportsman Motorcycle, Top Dragster, Competition and Stock Eliminator divisions over the course of the weekend. Friday and Saturday schedules consist primarily of time trials and qualifying, and eliminations begin at 2 p.m. Pacific Time on Saturday. Eliminations will continue on Sunday, with Round 1 of the Top Alcohol class kicking off at noon.

Defending champions are: Joey Severance (Top Alcohol Dragster); Jay Payne (Top Alcohol Funny Car); Tony Mandella (Comp Eliminator); Jimmy DeFrank (Super Stock); Peter Biondo (Stock Eliminator); Raquel Roper (Super Comp); Robert Naber (Super Gas); Bernie Polvadore (Super Street); Dean Hall (Top Sportsman); Thomas Bayer (Top Dragster); and Leo Shaver (Sportsman Motorcycle).

The Spring divisional event is the first of two NHRA Pacific Division races at The Strip in 2015. The Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series will be back in Las Vegas for its Fall event Nov. 5-8.

The event is one of 44 races throughout the country in 2015 where drivers earn points leading to regional, divisional and national championships and a share of a year-end purse of more than $519,000. Gates open at 7 a.m. daily, and racing begins at 8.

Rock in Rio, the legendary music festival celebrating its 30th anniversary worldwide, has enlisted world-famous chef Wolfgang Puck to create a special hospitality menu for VIPs attending the inaugural Rock in Rio USA, coming to Las Vegas in May 2015.   Celebrating the cultures of the three themed Rock Streets within Rock in Rio USA’s City of Rock, Puck will deliver his original take on signature dishes from the U.S., UK and Brazil for the event.  This distinct dining experience is an example of the innovative, premium offerings that will be included in Rock in Rio USA’s VIP experience. 

“Just like art, great music comes together with food and service to create a memorable dining experience,” said Wolfgang Puck.

Included in the price of a Rock in Rio USA VIP ticket, the all-inclusive buffet curated by Puck for the festival will span from snacks to dinner to desserts, with offerings changing throughout each day.  In the spirit of the U.S. Rock Street, Puck will provide a twist on the flavors of New Orleans with such dishes as fried chicken and pimento cheese Po’Boys with okra kimchi, spicy boudin balls with creole tartar and bread pudding soufflé with whiskey cream.  Dishes with Brazilian influences include the national dish feijoada, Portuguese rice and chicken bobo.  Rock Street UK  includes updates to iconic dishes such as as house made bangers with stout onion gravy, Yorkshire puds and Thai red curry Scotch Eggs.  These dishes and more will be featured in each weekend’s unique menu. 

In addition to the all-inclusive buffet, the 4,000 person VIP area will feature air conditioning, an open bar (certain premium liquors available for additional purchase) and its own unique view of the City of Rock.

A global culinary leader, and staple to the Las Vegas restaurant scene, Puck is credited with igniting the city’s fine dining revolution, beginning with the opening of Spago in the Forum Shops at Caesars in 1992. The City of Rock

The City of Rock, a permanent open-air concert venue, will be located on The Strip near the corner of Sahara Avenue and spread out over 37 acres.  With a capacity of 85,000 people per day, the venue will also include a Ferris wheel and a 64 foot high zip line that stretches 600 feet across in front of the Main Stage, which is 262 feet long.

The City of Rock in Las Vegas will also feature three Rock Streets – themed streets that will welcome attendees to experience an entirely new and exciting kind of music festival, and to enjoy the eclectic cultures of the U.S., the UK and Brazil. 

Each street has 20 houses filled with shops and restaurants, along with a stage where bands and artists will perform throughout the day. Street artists and performers will also transform the street into their own stage, interacting and connecting with the audience in an intimate environment. Rock Street will open daily at 3 PM, with concerts and performances taking place until 1:30 AM when doors close.

Doors for the City of Rock open at 3 PM and close at 1:30 AM; the Sunset Stage and the three Rock Streets start their performances at 3:30 PM and Main Stage performances begin at 5:30 PM.

Additionally, local musical group Franks & Deans will entertain the crowd with a live performance. Franks & Deans is the world’s first rock ‘n’ roll Rat Pack band, a tribute to Frank Sinatra’s boys, featuring new spins on original music and mash-ups of Sinatra’s top hits.

Following the main event, guests can head to the resort’s hot new restaurant, Hearthstone Kitchen & Cellar, for the Official After Party. Sake Fever attendees can show their event wristbands to receive a free glass of wine in the bar area, while keeping the festivities going into the night.

In addition to Sake Fever, UNLVino, Nevada’s largest and oldest wine festival, will host a weekend of celebrations including Bubble-Licious at The Venetian Las Vegas® on Thursday, April 16; and the Grand Tasting at Paris Las Vegas on Saturday, April 18. Tickets can be purchased at UNLVTickets.com.
