The Venetian & The Palazzo Roll Out Red Carpet For "Salute Out Troops"

Human Nature Performs For Troops

Red Carpet Arrival

To celebrate the season of giving, The Venetian and The Palazzo Las Vegas, Southwest Airlines®, and Omaha Steaks® have partnered with the Armed Forces Foundation for the ninth “Salute Our Troops,” giving back to our nation’s wounded veterans with an all-expense paid holiday vacation on the Las Vegas Strip. From Dec. 3-6, the troops will be treated to an array of world-class holiday festivities, entertainment, dining, and relaxation.

Southwest Airlines® flew 80 veterans and their guests from military hospitals in Washington, DC, and San Antonio, Texas, to Las Vegas.

Upon arriving to The Venetian by police motorcade escort, the veterans were greeted by Mr. Sheldon G. Adelson, chairman and CEO of Las Vegas Sands and his wife Dr. Miriam Adelson. Hundreds of team members from The Venetian and The Palazzo lined the red carpet cheering and waving American flags. With tears in their eyes, team members applauded and shook hands with the soldiers as they passed by.

The American Bombshells
To kick off the welcome ceremony in The Venetian’s Grand Colonnade, the Nellis Air Force Base Honor Guard presented the Colors while students from the Adelson Educational Campus led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance. Members of the American Bombshells Patriotic Service, ambassadors of America’s gratitude to our nation’s heroes, then performed the national anthem.

Philanthropists Dr. Miriam and Sheldon G. Adelson, chairman and CEO of Las Vegas Sands, Patricia Driscoll, president of the Armed Forces Foundation, and Laura Hoagland, Southwest Airlines’ senior specialist of community outreach addressed the veterans, expressing gratitude for their courage and sacrifice. And to close out the event, Human Nature, headliners from The Sands Showroom at The Venetian, sang God Bless America.

“To walk in and see that group of people all just cheering us on like that was absolutely overwhelming,” said retired Marine corporal Ryan Lamke. “To have Dr. and Mr. Adelson host us here at The Palazzo and The Venetian, have Southwest fly us out here, and have the Armed Forces Foundation coordinate all of this has just been absolutely amazing, and even just having this opportunity is incredibly special.”

During their stay, the veterans will enjoy luxurious accommodations at The Venetian, spa treatments at Canyon Ranch SpaClub, tours of the Las Vegas Strip, tickets to the party musical Rock of Ages, poker tournaments, and a gourmet cookout hosted by Omaha Steaks®. They will also have the opportunity to enjoy the ultimate sports fan restaurant and bar, Lagasse’s Stadium; Madame Tussauds; and the hands-on experience Da Vinci The Exhibition.

1st Sunday Sax At Rotella Gallery Coming Up! In Las Vegas!

Merging the worlds of fine arts and performing arts, Rotella Gallery in Las Vegas and New York City is launching a recurring monthly event – 1st Sunday Sax – as a new way of experiencing the gallery’s powerful photography. Bringing art lovers together starting Dec. 7, 1st Sunday Sax is a harmonious intermingling of creative minds, bold styles and enhanced senses.

Rotella Gallery’s flagship location in Las Vegas will begin 1st Sunday Sax on Dec. 7 from 1 - 3 p.m.  Located in the Forum Shops at Caesars, Rotella Gallery has enlisted Steve Golden to perform.  Golden boasts more than forty years of music experience with major recording artists and plays soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxophones (not to mention all flutes, all clarinets and the EWI – an electronic woodwind instrument).  A native Bostonian and graduate from Berklee College of Music with a degree in music composition, he has performed on tour with Diana Ross, appeared on HBO and shared stages with the likes of Shirley McClain, Frank Sinatra, Tony Benett, Anthony Newley, Burt Bacharach, Tom Jones, The Gatlin Brox., Sammy Davis Jr. and Wayne Newton, to name a few.
Located in SoHo, Rotella Gallery’s New York City location will feature The Eric DeAngelis Duo on Dec. 7 from 1 - 3 p.m.  Composed of Eric DeAngelis (baritone saxophone and flute) and Jeff Hall (upright bass), this pair injects new life into a varied selection of classic standards from the Great American Songbook as well as compositions by more contemporary jazz musicians.  Aside from their joint musical endeavor, DeAngelis serves as the Director of Instrumental Music at Holy Cross High School in Waterbury, CT and maintains a large studio of private woodwind students while Hall is a performing musician who also helps nurture the musical growth of students trough private lessons.  Both reside in Connecticut and perform and record regularly with their progressive-jazz fusion group Mid Atlantic Title.

Rotella Gallery features photography from four of the world’s leading professionals in the field: Robert Rotella, Art Wolfe, Michael Levin and David Yarrow.  Each with a distinct point of view, their works live side by side in Rotella Gallery, resulting in a refreshing and breathtaking approach to the world of fine art photography.  For more information on Rotella Gallery, visit www.rotellagallery.com.

Big Bad Voodoo Daddy Brings A Swingin' Party To The Orleans

Big Bad Voodoo Daddy will bring their trademark big band sound to The Orleans Showroom on December 29 and 30 for “Big Bad Voodoo Daddy’s Wild and Swinging Holiday Party.”

Following the paths of big band leaders like Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman and Duke Ellington, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy’s brassy, upbeat sound has been embraced both by older fans nostalgic for the music of their youth and by legions of younger fans enamored of the elegance and sophistication of the Big Band era.

Big Bad Voodoo Daddy arrived on the music scene in 1993 with their legendary residency at the Brown Derby Nightclub in Los Angeles. In 1996, the band rocketed to fame after performing “You & Me and the Bottle Makes Three (Tonight)” and “Go Daddy-O” in the hit movie, “Swingers.”

Since then, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy’s music has been featured in countless films and television shows, including “Despicable Me” and “Family Guy,” and has even been used for Olympic gymnastic and figure skating routines, including Carly Patterson’s 2004 gold medal gymnastics routine. The group has performed at high profile venues and events including the Billboard Music Awards, the White House and during the halftime shows of both the Super Bowl and the Orange Bowl.

The band has performed on numerous television shows, such as "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," "Live with Regis" and "Late Night with Conan O’Brien." To date, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy has released ten studio albums, including a Christmas album, “It Feels Like Christmas Time,” in 2013.

The seven-man group is comprised of Scotty Morris, lead vocals and guitar; Kurt Sodergren, percussion; Dirk Shumaker, double bass and vocals; Andy Rowley, baritone saxophone and vocals; Glen Marhevka, trumpet; Karl Hunter, saxophones and clarinet; and Joshua Levy, piano and arranger.

Showtime is 8 p.m. Tickets are available starting from $19.95, plus tax and convenience fees, and can be purchased at any Boyd Gaming Box Office, by calling 702.365.7075 or visiting www.orleanscasino.com.
