Human Nature Performs For Troops |
Red Carpet Arrival |
To
celebrate the season of giving, The Venetian and The Palazzo Las Vegas, Southwest
Airlines®, and Omaha Steaks® have partnered with the Armed Forces Foundation
for the ninth “Salute Our Troops,” giving back to our nation’s wounded veterans
with an all-expense paid holiday vacation on the Las Vegas Strip. From Dec.
3-6, the troops will be treated to an array of world-class holiday festivities,
entertainment, dining, and relaxation.
Southwest
Airlines® flew 80 veterans and their guests from military hospitals in
Washington, DC, and San Antonio, Texas, to Las Vegas.
Upon
arriving to The Venetian by police motorcade escort, the veterans were greeted
by Mr. Sheldon G. Adelson, chairman and CEO of Las Vegas Sands and his wife Dr.
Miriam Adelson. Hundreds of team members from The Venetian and The Palazzo
lined the red carpet cheering and waving American flags. With tears in their
eyes, team members applauded and shook hands with the soldiers as they passed
by.
To
kick off the welcome ceremony in The Venetian’s Grand Colonnade, the Nellis Air
Force Base Honor Guard presented the Colors while students from the Adelson
Educational Campus led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance. Members of the
American Bombshells Patriotic Service, ambassadors of America’s gratitude to
our nation’s heroes, then performed the national anthem.
Philanthropists
Dr. Miriam and Sheldon G. Adelson, chairman and CEO of Las Vegas Sands,
Patricia Driscoll, president of the Armed Forces Foundation, and Laura
Hoagland, Southwest Airlines’ senior specialist of community outreach addressed
the veterans, expressing gratitude for their courage and sacrifice. And to
close out the event, Human Nature, headliners from The Sands Showroom at The
Venetian, sang God Bless America.
“To
walk in and see that group of people all just cheering us on like that was
absolutely overwhelming,” said retired Marine corporal Ryan Lamke. “To have Dr.
and Mr. Adelson host us here at The Palazzo and The Venetian, have Southwest
fly us out here, and have the Armed Forces Foundation coordinate all of this
has just been absolutely amazing, and even just having this opportunity is
incredibly special.”
During
their stay, the veterans will enjoy luxurious accommodations at The Venetian,
spa treatments at Canyon Ranch SpaClub, tours of the Las Vegas Strip, tickets
to the party musical Rock of Ages, poker tournaments, and a gourmet cookout
hosted by Omaha Steaks®. They will also have the opportunity to enjoy the
ultimate sports fan restaurant and bar, Lagasse’s Stadium; Madame Tussauds; and
the hands-on experience Da Vinci The Exhibition.
