Funnyman Bill Cosby Follows Up Sold-Out Performance At Treasure Island 7/18
Following
a sold-out performance in March, iconic funny man Bill Cosby brings his
signature comedy back to the Treasure Island Theatre July 18 at 8 p.m.
Known
the world over for “The Cosby Show,” which ran from 1984 to 1992 on NBC, Cosby
broke racial barriers and sent a powerful message to viewers – the family unit
and raising children matters most. The No. 1 rated sitcom earned six Emmy
Awards, three Golden Globes and 10 People’s Choice Awards. It helped set the
stage for Cosby’s career as an author, as his book “Fatherhood” remained at No.
1 for more than half of its 54 weeks on The New York Times Best Seller List.
Among Cosby’s other titles are “Time Flies,” “Love and Marriage” and most
recently, “I Didn’t Ask to be Born: (But I’m Glad I Was).”
In
December 2013 Cosby’s first comedy specials in thirty years, “Bill Cosby: Far
From Finished,” debuted on Comedy Central, and he was recently signed by NBC to
star in a new sitcom.
A
champion of youth, Cosby’s dedication to helping children realize their
potential is evidenced through his Emmy Award-winning “Little Bill” animated
series, which aired on Nickelodeon and CBS. His other television and film
credits include “Obkb,” “Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids,” “The Cosby Mysteries,”
“Man and Boy” and “Uptown Saturday Night.”
Few
entertainers have achieved the legendary status of Cosby, who emerged from
humble beginnings in a Philadelphia housing project. After returning from the
Navy, Cosby went on to earn a degree at Temple University and later a master’s
and doctorate in Education from the University of Massachusetts. His lifelong
contributions to American culture were recognized with a Kennedy Center Honor
in 1998, the Presidential Medal of Freedom in July 2002, and the Kennedy Center
Mark Twain Prize for American Humor in 2009.
Tickets
are available starting at $59.95, plus taxes and service charges, and can be
purchased by calling 866-712-9308 or 702-894-7722, or visiting www.treasureisland.com.
O Face Doughnuts Has Specialty Fantastic New Over The Top Doughnut Offerings!
O Face Doughnuts opened in April as part of the dynamic new offerings that have
taken over the John E. Carson building in Downtown Las Vegas. The
1,100-square-foot shop offers specialty doughnuts, made fresh daily by pastry
chef, Crystal Whitford, and an array of coffee selections.
“While
specialty doughnut shops have become popular in other urban markets, we are the
first to bring over-the-top doughnuts to Downtown Las Vegas,” said Sonny Ahuja,
owner of O Face Doughnuts and long-time Las Vegas restaurateur. “We’ve already
become a neighborhood favorite, with a lot of regulars coming by for their
favorite doughnuts and coffee every morning.”
Whitford,
whose past credits include Spago and Bouchon, has created a variety of sweet
and savory doughnut selections for O Face Doughnuts, ranging from traditional
to innovative. The doughnuts include an array of specialty and seasonal
varieties, as well as several doughnuts that are featured daily. Various
flavors include glazed, Boston cream, s’mores, Mexican chocolate, bacon apple
fritter and a made-to-order lox doughnut. All of the specialty shop’s doughnut
fillings, including preserves, creams, and curds are made fresh in-house, and O
Face always features vegan selections.
“I’m
excited to have a medium with almost no limitations. Doughnuts are kind of a
blank canvas – you can put any flavors in there and no one is going to stop you
and say, ‘that’s too crazy,’” Whitford said. “We also bring that fine dining,
high-end sensibility to our doughnuts, so our selections aren’t you’re average
treat; they are something to remember.”
O
Face Doughnuts serves an array of hot beverages, including lattes, cappuccinos,
chai tea and hot chocolate, as well as cold brew coffee on tap. Seattle’s Caffe Vita supplies all of the
coffee beans and the shop’s flavored syrups for the espresso drinks are made
in-house. The specialty shop also offers O Face merchandise, including
T-shirts, and hats, starting at $16.
The
design of the intimate space, which offers countertop seating for 10, has a
retro, ’70s feel, with burnt orange countertops, white-washed brick walls, blue
and brown wood flooring, copper wall lights and a starburst clock. “The overall
feel combines a classic doughnut shop with your bachelor uncle’s basement,”
says Ahuja. A feeling that is brought together with throwback music by artists
such as Led Zeppelin and Elton John.
The
shop was the first business to open in Downtown Project’s John E. Carson Hotel,
which keeps the bones and character of the history building to host a mix of
dynamic offerings, including Kerry Simon’s Carson Kitchen, Bikram Yoga
Downtown, Digital Royalty and Bunnyfish Studio.
