It's SO TRUE!! Grrrrl Power Coming To The Venetian! Whitney Cummings Announces LIPSHTICK!

The Venetian Las Vegas has announced LIPSHTICK – THE PERFECT SHADE OF STAND UP, a newly branded resident comedy series that marks the first time in the storied entertainment history of Las Vegas that the comedy stage will be taken exclusively by female performers.   The new series will debut July 11 with appearances by daytime television personality Wendy Williams and will bring regular stand-up comedy performances to The Sands Showroom from an opening slate of 14 critically acclaimed comediennes.

The series was announced today by comedienne Whitney Cummings, television personality and co-creator of the hit CBS sitcom 2 Broke Girls, at a press conference at The Venetian Las Vegas.  Cummings, who will debut at The Sands Showroom on Aug. 15, is part of a 2014 lineup that features today’s premiere, and up-and-coming female stand-ups, including:

Joy Behar, former host of The View and the Joy Behar Show
Jennifer Coolidge, best known for her roles as “Stifler’s mom” on American Pie and Sophie on the series 2 Broke Girls
Whitney Cummings, television personality and co-creator of the hit CBS sitcom 2 Broke Girls
Susie Essman, best known for her role as Susie Greene on Curb Your Enthusiasm
Jen Kirkman, known for her regular appearances as a round-table panelist on Chelsea Lately
Lisa Lampanelli, whose snarky brand of stand up has lovingly earned her the nickname Comedy's Queen of Mean
Natasha Leggero, known for her regular appearances as a round-table panelist on Chelsea Lately and judge of NBC’s Last Comic Standing
Wendy Liebman, a regular on the late night circuit, including The Tonight Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the Late Show with David Letterman, and The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson

Heather McDonald, known for her regular appearances as a round-table panelist on Chelsea Lately and author of My Inappropriate Life (Some Stories Not Suitable for Nuns, Children, or Mature Adults)
Caroline Rhea, best known for her role on Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, and as the host of the talk show, The Caroline Rhea Show
Rita Rudner, a Venetian headliner since 2001, and one of the most successful comedians in Las Vegas history, selling more than one million tickets collectively
Iliza Schlesinger, winner of the sixth season of NBC's Last Comic Standing and former host of the syndicated dating show Excused
Wendy Williams, media personality, actress and host of  the daytime talk show The Wendy Williams Show

“While the industry has concentrated on male comedy acts, The Venetian has a long-standing history of featuring outstanding female comediennes,” said John Caparella, president and chief operating officer of The Venetian, The Palazzo and Sands Expo. “Our success with comedic legends like Rita Rudner and Joan Rivers have proven that ‘girls rule’ when it comes to comedy.  Further, we believe that female-driven comedy is now as popular as ever!”

The new series was designed to appeal to a target audience of couples, groups and bachelorette celebrants out for a uniquely “Vegas” good time.  It also creates an entertainment-driven “destination” that focuses on female branding and style while setting The Venetian apart from competitors.

Artists are engaged to perform two to three shows over a weekend, on Friday and Saturday evenings. Once part of the LIPSHTICK family, most of the comediennes will be scheduled into a rotation to perform at The Venetian three to four times per year.  In addition, more comediennes will be added at later dates.
“We’ve already created a buzz in the comedy community,” said Caparella.  “Everybody wants to be part of this series.”

Tickets go on sale today for the first dates announced in the series.  Shows will be held on Fridays  at 10:00 p.m. and Saturdays at 7:30pm.  Some performance dates will include a second Saturday night show at 10:00 p.m.

Jimmy Kimmel Painting

David Rice & Jimmy Kimmel

Acclaimed TV personality and longtime Las Vegas resident, Jimmy Kimmel, partnered with University of Las Vegas, Nevada Runnin’ Rebels Head Coach Dave Rice and his wife, Mindy, to host the third annual “An Evening with Dave Rice” gala May 17th inside the MGM Grand Conference Center. The upscale event benefitted the Dave Rice Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to the education and support of health initiatives including developmental disorders such as Autism and other charitable causes throughout Southern Nevada

Kimmel, an avid UNLV hoops fan, entertained guests throughout the night with his celebrated quick-witted humor and crowd interaction. Dave and Mindy Rice, along with former UNLV athletic director of communications, D.J. Allen, each made emotional presentations sharing their personal stories relating to Autism. Notable guests included former UNLV basketball star Stacey Augmon and former NBA star Jerome “Junkyard Dog” Williams, among others.

Nationally recognized speed painter, Tim Decker, performed live creating massive works of canvas art in mere minutes, including depictions of Frank Sinatra and the Statue of Liberty. Both paintings were sold in an exciting live auction, which also featured a backstage pass to “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” golf packages with Coach Dave Rice and an all-inclusive trip with the Runnin’ Rebels when the team travels to play the Kansas Jayhawks in January.

A highlight of the night came when Decker introduced a portrait of Kimmel into the auction, with the bidding starting at $2,500. Kimmel, encouraged by the crowd, proceeded to outbid himself on stage until purchasing the masterpiece for $10,000, all of which directly benefits the Dave Rice Foundation.

Dave and Mindy Rice ended the evening by presenting the Kenny Guinn Award for Commitment to Community to Dr. Nicole Cavanagh, clinical director for Touro University Nevada. Kimmel also received a customized UNLV basketball jersey from Coach Rice and his family.

The successful evening featured a celebrity red carpet meet-and-greet, posh cocktail reception and gourmet three-course dinner and drinks. Guests were also able to bid on a variety of top-line silent auction items including restaurant certificates, hotel packages and signed sports and entertainment memorabilia from Muhammad Ali, Michael Jackson, Bryce Harper, Kimmel and others.

About The Dave Rice Foundation:
The Dave Rice Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the education and support of health initiatives including developmental disorders such as Autism and other charitable causes throughout Southern Nevada. After the show, Legend tweeted: "Thanks to my brother @Ludacris for the surprise guest appearance at @HydeBellagio! Tonight's the night!"

Before heading back to his table, Legend stopped to sign autographs and take photos with fans. He continued the party late into the night with Tiegen and friends. The R&B singer will give a live performance from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas tonight at the Billboard Music Awards.
