Forget about rehearsals and no need to memorize a script, Vegas’ premiere performance haven The Space introduces Improv International, a full-force workshop designed for everyone to learn the importance of thinking on their feet. Tailored not just for actors and performers but women and men from all walks of life, Improv International welcomes everyone to participate in this unique and life-changing workshop. Students will delve into the dynamics of improvisation such as ad-libbing, quick thinking, acting techniques, and characterizing actions to master and improve these practices both onstage and off.
“I think it's important for professionals based in Las Vegas to have the opportunity to continue to grow. Not only for those of us who make a living on stage, but also for those who need to be quick on their feet. The biggest thing missing in Vegas is professional level classes for professionals living in Las Vegas. Lyndsey Hailey and Matt Donnelly quickly fill that void and I can't wait to take the workshop,” says Mark Shunock, creator of The Space and former lead of Rock of Ages.
Taught by professional performers with years of experience including Las Vegas’ own Matt Donnelly and Lyndsey Hailey, the classes enable students will not only get to perform skits and scenes, but truly understand the importance of improvisation and how Improv can benefit both on and off the stage. Improv International launches with a master class weekend workshop that takes place Friday, July 21 and Saturday, July 22 from 1 – 4 p.m., followed by an intensive 6-8 week course. The cost of the weekend master class is $125, plus applicable taxes and fees. Improv International is on a first-come, first-serve basis with only 20 students. Registration is currently open. To sign up or for more information, call The Space at 702-903-1070 or visit www.thespace.com.
"Improv teaches people not only how to unleash their creativity but also how to create brilliant theater together as a group,” says actor and instructor Matt Donnelly. “Las Vegas has such rich and diverse types of entertainers here and I’m super excited to see the creative synergy that improv brings out of Las Vegas' best performers.”
"We teach that which we need to know the most,” says comedian and instructor Lyndsay Hailey. “I teach Improv because I needed to learn how to be present in my own life. Improv helped me release my personal fears, blocks and obstacles that kept me trapped in my mind. This art form demands that you say ‘Yes And…’ to yourself and the world. Improv provides a workable system to living in the present moment. To me, presence is the key to great acting and performing, so once you understand how to get there, you unlock your limitless potential as a performer and a human being.”
Prior to his stardom in Las Vegas, Donnelly has trained, performed, coached and taught at the Upright Citizen's Brigade Theatre, The People's Improv Theater, and The Magnet Theater in New York City. As a performer in Sin City, Matt has performed in Wayne Brady's “Making It Up” at the Venetian. Donnelly has also taught and performed at Improv Vegas, as well as Improv Kingdom and has been a guest instructor at more than 60 improv festivals around the world. Donnelly currently performs in “50 Shades: The Parody” at Bally’s Las Vegas Hotel and Casino as well as “Matt and Mattingly's Bucket Show,” which was voted “Best Comedy Show in Vegas” by DC Magazine. Donnelly just wrapped his third season as head comedy writer for “Penn & Teller: Fool Us” on the CW and is the co-host of “Penn’s Sunday School” and “Matt and Mattingly’s Ice Cream Social.”
As a comedic performer, Hailey has screen tested for “SNL” and performed throughout the U.S. and internationally. She has toured with The Second City Touring Company, iO’s Deltones, The iO’s Roadshow and her own sketch shows “30% Chance of Hailey” and “Shauman Noodles.” Her show “30% Chance of Hailey” was awarded the Chicago Tribune’s Critic’s Choice Award and was heralded as “one of the most inventive solo productions in years.” Hailey also wrote, directed, produced and starred in “The Lyndsay Hailey Variety Hour,” an ensemble sketch variety show which has a residency at The Second City Up Comedy Club in Chicago.
