Americans love a good glass of wine. In fact, according to the Wine Institute, there were 913 million gallons of wine consumed in the country last year. The good news for those who love their wine and their country is that they can help support the nation’s veterans by purchasing wine that gives back to them. Some wine stores do carry options that help to support veteran missions.
“Not all wine shops are created equal, so if you want to support veterans it is important to seek out and go to those that carry the wine varieties that give proceeds to help veterans,” explains Ken Falke, chairman and founder of Boulder Crest Retreat. “If you are a wine drinker, it’s a small change you can make that will go a long way toward helping those who have helped our country.”
To help veterans, Boulder Crest Retreat has teamed up with Tackitt Family Vineyards to offer wines that give back. Proceeds from the variety of wines go to the Boulder Crest Retreat program, which provides free therapy to veterans and their families. BCR charity wine offers a high quality option that won’t cost people more, yet at the same time they will be helping to support veterans.
Currently, the BCR wines from Tackitt Family Vineyards are available in stores throughout Virginia, and Washington, D.C. Those who would like their favorite wine shop to offer the line for consumers can contact the vineyard for information. The wines are also available for purchasing online at the Tackitt Family Vineyards website.
“Whether you are purchasing wine for yourself or to give away as a gift, you will be making a statement and helping to give back,” explains Leon Tackitt, owner of Tackitt Family Vineyards, located in Paso Robles, Calif. “We get nothing but great feedback not only about the wine, but for having a program that does so much good for our country’s veterans. We are proud to be a partner in this program.”
The Boulder Crest Retreat (BCR) charity wine is a product of Tackitt Family Vineyards, owned by Leon Tackitt, a retired Naval Officer (EOD). The award-winning vineyard was started in 2007, and all proceeds from the BCR labeled wine go to help the combat veterans attending the Boulder Crest Retreat for Military and Veteran Wellness. The wine is currently available for shipping to 25 states. The wine is a Cabernet Sauvignon, which is paired nicely with pork, spicy Italian red sauce dishes, and barbecue. In the Virginia area, it is available at Total Wine & More, Billbacks, Cork & Fork, Cordial Fine Wine and Beer, Vino Market, and others.
