Vacations and getaways, we all need to leave the daily grind behind and take time to recharge and unwind. It had been a long time between getaways for my husband and I. When the opportunity arose to take a road trip and visit the ocean city of Carmel California, well needless to say we did not need any convincing. Our visit was scheduled for three days and three nights with the first stay being at the boutique family owned hotel Hofsas Hotel in Carmel. What a wonderful hotel! When traveling we always take our dogs, Pomeranians Lola Belle and Tobey and if you call ahead and make the arrangements you can bring your furry “kids” with you! Upon check in you receive a nice present for your dog/dogs, their private label shampoo, spray and a collapsible dog water bowl. The spray which smells light and clean comes in very handy after days spent on the dog beach. But more about that later.

As I mentioned above we had our two dogs with us and Carmel is the absolutely most dog friendly town on the West Coast. The Hofsas House is located within walking distance of art galleries, shopping and dog friendly restaurants. Clint Eastwood’s former restaurant the Hogs Breath is just down the street and dogs are welcome on the patio. Be sure and visit the specialty dog retail store “Diggity Dog” for dazzling accessories and fantastic dog clothes. They have items for sporty dogs, blinged out dogs, and preppy dogs!
Carmel has a scenic route called the 17-Mile drive which takes you through some of the most exclusive real estate in California. This drive takes you through Pebble Beach and Pacific Grove on the Monterey Peninsula and you will see enormous mansions. Keep on the look-out as there are delicate deer that are grazing on the roadside. You will also drive by miles of beach views and you can park on the side of the road on designated areas and take your dogs on leash and stroll along the exclusive beaches.

Staying at The Hofsas House was an entirely enjoyable experience and this boutique hotel has been family owned by three generations of wonderful women. They have worked hard to ensure that your experience at the hotel is exceptional and unique. With 38 rooms, each room has a distinctive charm. If you have any questions about restaurants or sightseeing just ask the front desk, they know Carmel inside and out! There is not bad time to visit Carmel but if you are there in the Spring and during the Winter months be prepared for chilly evenings and bring a couple of sweaters The hottest months are September and October. California has been in a drought for several years and the hotel recycles water and even collects rainwater and dew to use for watering the beautiful plants and flowers on property.
