This
June, a Las Vegas culinary favorite is coming to Mercadito at Red Rock Resort
as part of Mercadito Hospitality’s national Tacos for Strength campaign. Throughout the month of June, Mercadito
features a playful approach to an old school favorite by Chef Sam DeMarco,
otherwise known as Chef Sammy D. Las
Vegans can delight in the chance to catch a bite by the beloved chef in form of
“Chef Sammy D’s B.T.L.A. Taco” during dinner for $15.50 (four per order). A percentage of the proceeds will benefit Share
Our Strength.
For
June, Sammy D unveils his B.T.L.A Taco – Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato, Avocado
featuring thick-grilled nueske bacon, arugula chiffonade, tomato-corn salsa and
crushed avocado on a flour tortilla with chipotle lime crema and crumbled queso
fresca. This taco is a twist on his
signature B.T.L.A. “two-fisted” sandwich that has appeared on all of his menus
since 1994. “Growing up, I’ve always had
fond memories of countless BLT’s,” said Sammy D. “I always wanted to make one that was
substantial, this is just the taco version.”
Chef
Sam “Sammy D” DeMarco is known as the “chefs’ chef” making his mark as a leader
in modern and casual American cuisine for more than 30 years. After countless
New York-based dining destinations, including FIRST which ran strong for a
decade in NYC, Sammy D reinvented the brand opening FIRST Food & Bar in Las
Vegas in 2009 where he established himself as one of the most creative chefs in
Las Vegas serving crave-worthy fan favorites like Philly Cheesesteak Dumplings,
Lollipop Buffalo Wings and Walnut Shrimp. In 2012, the chef partnered with
friend and renowned designer Antonio Ballatore and the coolest burger
restaurant ever to hit The Strip, Rattlecan was born. Thanks to overwhelming
politics, both hotspots were abruptly shut down in early 2013 and chowhounds
have been clamoring for a bite of Sammy D ever since. In 2014, the loveable chef showed up on
television sets across the U.S. for a season of “Chow Masters” on Travel Channel
which found Sammy D on road trips with best friend and big time movie director
(Wedding Singer, Waterboy, Blended – to name a few!), Frank Coraci. The two
were off to find America’s off the map locations for some unique twists on City
favorites. Sammy D currently has concepts in Atlantic City and Australia and is
currently working on multiple projects soon to be announced!
Each
month, chef and owner Patricio Sandoval invites a different chef to “think
outside the tortilla” and create a taco inspired by their culinary or personal
passions, which will be served in all Mercadito restaurants with a portion of
proceeds going to Share Our Strength. Since its inception, Tacos for Strength
has sold more than 5,000 tacos and raised thousands of dollars to benefit Share
Our Strength.
