A
concert and fundraising event is planned on Friday May 22, 2015 by Cirque du
Soleil performing artist and musician Sami Saula. The special event is a
heartwarming gathering aimed at helping Saula and his wife, Leslie, raise funds
to pay for their son’s extensive medical bills.
Four-year-old
Elann Saula was born with hypogammaglobulinemia (Hypo-gamma-globu-li-nemia), a
disorder in which the body creates a level of antibodies too low to sustain a
normal immune system. As a result, Elann
must go for monthly, six-hour infusions to help his body fight viruses, toxins
and bacteria. He will need these infusions for several more years before
doctors can determine if he can ever survive without them.
The
family has never asked for a handout. Instead they are offering the artistry of
Sami Saula’s immense musical talents in exchange for support of the fundraising
event and sale of his CD. Music has been
an incredible inspiration for the family and an escape when times were tough.
They’ve received the support of many in the Cirque “family” as well as Larry
and Barbara Domsky who are providing the venue for the fundraising event as
well as a live glassblowing demonstration.
This is the Saula’s way of giving back some of what has been provided to
them.
Sami
Saula, who performs as a musician in “Ka”, has released a CD of world music
titled “Awaken.” It is also available
for purchase at www.samisaula.com.
The
family has done what it can to pay its own medical expenses. Medical costs have
already exceeded $1,000,000, the majority of which was covered by medical
insurance provided to Sami through Cirque du Soleil. Sami Saula is permitted to work in the United
States under a work visa. But he does not have a “green card” establishing full
residency at this time. That could take years and will take thousands of
dollars as well. Without a green card for Sami, Leslie is not legally allowed
to work full time in the United States.
“Awaken .. A Story Beyond Words” concert and
fundraiser; live glass blowing demonstration, raffle, bidding opportunities!
