Once
Upon A time
I
love the feel of a "real" book in my hands. Simply turning the pages
invokes delight at the anticipated hours of adventure to be found between those
crisp pages. Four little words “Once Upon A Time”—so full of promise!
Regretfully
we live in a disposable world and paper bound books seem destined to become a
thing of the past. The only thing worse than an unloved book gathering dust on
a shelf is a discarded book in a landfill. Respect for the physical book itself
is losing ground to the lure of technology.
And
so, I see my work as a way of transforming these soon to be relics into
wonderful pieces of art design to remind the viewer that “Once Upon a Time” a
young girl grasped a leather bound book and between its pages found adventure,
hope and courage. Designs featuring symbols, words or patterns are meant to
inspire and encourage and ultimately to make you look at a book and even art in
a new light."
