Tons Of Events Coming Up At The Springs Preserve! Great For Families

The Springs Preserve is observing fall/winter hours seven days a week from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. until Saturday, March 7. Starting Sunday, March 8 we will observe spring/summer hours seven days a week 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Hours vary for classes and special events. Gardens and trails close at 4 p.m. or dusk (whichever comes first). Please note the Nevada State Museum is open 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Thursday - Monday.

Mardi Gras Vegas
Laissez les bons temps rouler ("let the good times roll") as we celebrate Cajun and Creole cuisine, music and culture at Mardi Gras Vegas! Featuring live music by Strip Kings, Southern style food from local eateries, a beer garden for the adults, and crafts for the kids, the family-friendly Mardi Gras Vegas will bring the tastes and sounds of the Louisiana bayou and the colors and fun of Mardi Gras to the heart of the Southern Nevada desert. Saturday, March 7, 2015, 3 p.m. - 7 p.m. Admission is $6 for adults and children age 5-12, four and under are free. Tickets are available at springspreserve.org and at the ticket window.

Butterfly Habitat Spring Season
We're all aflutter!  Hundreds of butterflies and an array of plants have returned to our seasonal exhibit! Wander through our unique Butterfly Habitat and witness the fascinating dance between free-flying butterflies and the plants that sustain them. You’ll emerge with a better understanding of the environment needed for the survival of these spectacular animals. Starting March 14 - May 31 the habitat will be open daily 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. while weather permits. The habitat is located in the southern end of the Display Gardens, just south of the Gardens Arboretum. There is a separate entrance fee to enter the habitat: $3 for non-members; $2 for members. All guests ages 2-up must be ticketed.

Spring Preserve Plant Sale and Green Living Expo
Purchase native and desert-adapted plants—many not available in local garden outlets—at our annual Spring Plant Sale and Green Living Expo! Ask our staff experts your questions about plant care, view demos, visit with our expo exhibitors and much more. Guests are encouraged to bring their own wagons to transport purchases to their vehicles. March 21 - 22, 2015, 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. (Preview Saturday at 7 a.m. for Springs Preserve members). Free admission.

Run Away with Cirque du Soleil
Join dozens of artists from Cirque du Soleil's Las Vegas shows and more than 1,000 community members for a 5K run or 1-mile fun walk at Run Away with Cirque du Soleil at the Springs Preserve. Enjoy photo ops with Cirque du Soleil characters, face painting, a children's play area, and more! All proceeds support the Cirque du Soleil and Springs Preserve Foundations. Saturday, March 28, 7 a.m. - 12 p.m. Through March 1: $37 for 5K and $27 for 1 mile fun walk. After March 1, prices increase to $40 and $30, respectively. Register online at active.com.

Going Green Spring Break Camp
Spend your most awesome Spring Break ever at the Springs Preserve! It's YOUR time to explore, play and learn. Have the coolest, "greenest" Spring Break ever with awesome eco-fun at the Springs Preserve! It's Las Vegas' ultimate kids' nature playground. Activities revolve around different green themes each day: Monday - Water, Tuesday - Solar, Wednesday - Soil, Thursday - Plants, and Friday - Recycling. Also enjoy acting with Drama Kids, museums and more! Ages 6 - 12. Monday, March 30 - Friday, April 3, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.  $200 per week for members, $225 for non-members. After-hours care is available from 6:30 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6:30 p.m. for an additional $50 fee. Reservations are required. Tickets will be on sale starting March 1 at spingspreserve.org

Green Chefs Farmers Market at the Springs Preserve
Join us Thursdays for "local farm fresh goodness" at the outdoor Green Chefs Farmers Market at the Springs Preserve. Featuring a cornucopia of local and regional produce, plants, herbs, homemade baked goods, honey, goat's milk soap, and more. Fun at the market includes gardening workshops, cooking demonstrations and kids' activities. Open Thursdays, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. outside in the Desert Living Center Courtyard. Walk with a Doc
Stay healthy! Join UMC physicians at our Trails Entrance the third Thursday of every month for a free nature walk and health talk on our Trails. March 19, 9:30 - 10:30 a.m.
 
Ride the Trails - Train and Bike Rides
RIDE THE TRAIN: $3 members, $5 non-members. Take a narrated ride on our life-size locomotive around the historic 2.2 mile Exploration Trail. DAILY. Check onsite for times. BIKE THE TRAILS: $6 members, $8 non-members for 1-hour bike rental, helmet included. Electric bike rentals $10 members, $12 non-members. WEEKENDS. Last rental 1 hour before close. Personal bikes not permitted.

Chocolate: The Exhibition
The delicious phenomenon we call "chocolate" has fascinated humans for thousands of years. Engage your senses and uncover the rich history of this sumptuous sweet we crave! Chocolate and its national tour were developed by the Field Museum, Chicago. This exhibition was supported, in part,by the National Science Foundation. Sponsored locally by Ethel M Chocolates.  Exhibit on display daily through May 3. This exhibit is free for Springs Preserve members or with general admission.

Scholastic Art & Writing Awards
Visit our Big Springs Gallery to explore the best artwork and writing from local students in a variety of categories and mediums. Dating back to 1923, these awards are the nation's longest-running, most-prestigious recognition program for creative teens. We proudly host the Southern Nevada Region competition and exhibit.  Exhibit on display daily through March 2.This exhibit is free for Springs Preserve members or with general admission.

Springs Preserve Photo Contest Exhibition
Envision how professional, amateur and youth photographers have captured "Celebrations and Traditions." That's the theme of our sixth photo contest, which has produced some of the most enduring images to grace our galleries. Who won Best in Show? Come find out!. Exhibit on display in the Big Springs Gallery daily March 13 through June 21.This exhibit is free for Springs Preserve members or with general admission.

Butterfly Gardens Art
Let these 12 delightful, metal, swallowtail butterflies artfully guide you through our Botanical Gardens! Local sculptor Miguel Rodriquez fabricated these flights of fancy, which then were painted by local artists. This exhibit on display daily in the Botanical Gardens is free for Springs Preserve members or with general admission.

Metamorphosis of Scrap
From the big horn sheep sculptures along valley highways to more abstract pieces, Ramon Sanchez of P & S Metals turns scrap metals and steel into art. See his transformational work throughout our Botanical Gardens! This exhibit on display daily in the Botanical Gardens is free for Springs Preserve members or with general admission.

Mad Science MANIA
Back by popular demand! Mad Scientists have returned to roam the Springs Preserve! This live, interactive show invites YOU into the "lab" for weird, wild and wonderful science fun. Young Einsteins can come back over and over: We have NEW experiments and explosive antics every month! Two shows presented weekends and select school holidays at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., March 7 through May 31. Free for Springs Preserve members or with general admission.

Mad Science Backstage Pass
Want more Mad Science Mania? A Backstage Pass earns you a prime seat in the lab for extra-exclusive, up-close science adventures and free takeaways. Every young Einstein needs a spark!! Weekends and select school holidays at noon and 2 p.m. March 7 through May 31. $10 per person, members and non-members.

Feature Film – The Silkies of Madagascar
Follow generations of female silk harvesters and weavers and see how Peace Corps volunteers and international folk-art markets empower them to better their lives in The Silkies of Madagascar (25 min.) Saturdays and Sundays at 3 p.m. inside the Big Springs Theater. Free for Springs Preserve members or with general admission.

Crack a Geode

Candy Magnets
Craft delicious-looking fridge magnets (almost good enough to eat!) using plaster and candy molds. Drop in to the Origen Rotunda Saturdays and Sundays, 10 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Members: $2. Non-members: GA + $3.

Color a Butterfly
Decorate a butterfly: Wind it up and watch it fly! Drop in to the Origen Rotunda Saturdays and Sundays 10 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Members: $2. Non-members: GA + $3.

The Great Chocolate Play Dough Experiment
Some of the greatest science discoveries have been by accident! Learn about some of history’s great “mistakes” from penicillin to chocolate-chip cookies, then explore your inner inventor as you experiment with chocolate play dough. Class held in the Cottonwood Room, Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m. Members: $3. Non-members: GA + $5.

Toddler Time
Bring your little ones for kid-friendly fun! Ages 5-under recommended. 11-11:45 a.m. Thursdays in the Activity Center. March 5 – Prince and Princess Party. March 12 - Animal Tales. March 19 - Bears, We Love Them! March 26 - Cowboy Story Time. Free for members or with general admission.

Monday Story Time

Vinyassa Yoga Flow

Canon Day At The Springs Preserve: Photography Event
Learn photography tips from top professionals! In partnership with Canon USA and B&C Camera, the Springs Preserve will host a Macro and Nature Photography Lecture. There’s no better setting than the Springs Preserve to try out your new photo knowledge. Bring your camera to photograph all the color in the Preserve’s Botanical Gardens and Trails, or borrow a camera! Canon camera and lenses will also be available for loan from 9 am-3 pm (limited availability, loan time limits may apply based on demand).  Some restrictions apply: Loaned cameras/lenses are for use only on the Springs Preserve property, and you must present a current U.S. driver’s license or I.D. along with a valid major credit card. All cameras must be returned at the end of the loan period. Loaner cameras will not contain memory cards, so please bring your own memory card to save your shoot images. Cook With Divine: Take Stock In Cooking Soups And Stews
Join Divine Cafe chefs to explore soup and stew fundamentals! One of the most "open" categories in culinary arts, soups and stews often hold a special place in our hearts and hearths as the ultimate comfort food. Many would say there is no kinder, more adaptable food friend than soup! Yet, overwhelmed by the sheer potential of ultimate fulfillment—or disappointment—many cooks shy away from welcoming the many variations of this delectable dish into their repertoire. Bird Walk At The Springs Preserve
Back by popular demand! The Audubon Society will lead a walking tour to explore the many birds of the Springs Preserve. Join us as we learn just how diverse and wonderful our feathered friends are. Sunday, March 15, 11 a.m. - noon. $2 members, $3 non-members.

Drip Irrigation Workshop
Experts from the Southern Nevada Water Authority’s Conservation Division teach you the skills to design a drip-irrigation system. Plant Introduction Tour
If you’re planning to attend our annual Spring Plant Sale on March 21-22, don’t miss this tour the weekend before—it will help you make great choices at the sale! Springs Preserve Admission Prices
General Admission (GA) for Nevada residents is $9.95 for adults, $8.95 for students, seniors, teachers and military, $4.95 for children ages 5 – 17, kids 4 and under are free. General admission also includes access to the Nevada State Museum, open Thursday through Monday. Admission for nonresidents adults is $18.95, $17.05 seniors, students and military, $10.95 for children ages 5 – 17, kids 4 and under are free. Special event and class admission prices vary and can be found at springspreserve.org.

Springs Preserve Membership
Springs Preserve memberships are the perfect way to share the Springs Preserve with family and friends and are available on-line or at the Springs Preserve Ticketing Office. All memberships include year-round access to the Springs Preserve (half-off admission to select special events), early hours entry to gardens and trails, discounts to classes, workshops, the Gift Shop, access to the Nevada State Museum, and a subscription to the Springs Preserve member newsletter. There are a variety of gift options to choose from starting with an Individual membership ($25), a Family membership ($60) which includes two (2) adults and up to 6 children or grandchildren in same household ages 5 - 17 (children 4 and under are always free), or a Bronze Family membership ($100) which includes all member benefits plus extras including free stroller rental, preferred parking, and 2 free guest passes.
