Doo
wop crooner and former front man of The Platters Sonny Turner will perform at
Sam’s Town Live! on Saturday, January 24.
Turner
joined The Platters at the age of 19 in 1959 and began touring with the hit doo
wop band. In the 1960’s, The Platters hit the pop charts with hits “I Love You
1000 Times,” “With This Ring” and “Washed Ashore.” Turner later re-recorded
hits made famous by The Platters prior to his joining the group, including
“Only You” and “The Great Pretender.” The re-recorded songs appeared on multiple
motion picture soundtracks, including “The Nutty Professor II” and “Hearts in
Atlantis.”
Turner’s
accolades include induction into The Vocal Group Hall of Fame, Beach Music Hall
of Fame and The Doo-Wop Hall of Fame, as well as a Lifetime Excellence in Entertainment
Award. Turner keeps the music of The Platters alive in his performances around
the world.
