Preview Thursday Coming Up In Downtown Vegas!!

Las Vegans are invited in on a little secret this month when First Friday Las Vegas adds some extra fun the monthly Preview Thursday event.  Often regarded as an underground, ‘in-the-know’ event, Preview Thursday events are at various galleries within the Las Vegas Arts District.  Art lovers and festival goers are encouraged to start the 12th anniversary celebration a day early on Thursday, Oct. 2 visiting the 18b galleries that originated the First Friday event and continuing their night in the Emergency Arts building for a special exhibitions.

The festivities will begin in the Arts District where designed Preview Thursday galleries will hand out tokens throughout the night.  Each participant will receive one token per gallery and collect as many as they can to increase their chances to win a pair of  tickets to Life is Beautiful, Zappos gift cards, bottle of rare scotch and many more surprises at the end of the evening.  Prizes from the scavenger hunt will be awarded at the end of the evening at Emergency Arts at approximately 9 p.m.  Winners must be present to win and tokens must be submitted no later than 8:45 p.m.

Upon making their way through downtown, Preview Thursday attendees will end at Emergency Arts (520 E. Fremont, Las Vegas) where they will be treated to more exhibitions by local artists.

Using the 12th anniversary as his influence, Jacob Gallegos will open a show of works on paper, curated by First Friday, of the 12 most influential people in the Las Vegas arts community at Arts Square’s Garden. During a round of interviews with his subjects, Gallegos shot photos of his subjects as they spoke about their work, their passion, and what makes the Downtown Arts Scene so special. Born in Wyoming but raised in Las Vegas, Gallegos has developed his artistic style to reflect both his unique personality as well the diverse collection of styles practiced by those who have inspired him over the years. This has led to a unique style all his own, shown in various mediums from watercolor and oil paint to pen sketches and collages. His artistic approach is comparable to the performance art of Andy Kaufman and Iggy Pop coupled with the artwork of Conrad Roset and Farel Dalrymple.

Celebrating its 12th anniversary with “Time, Mythology and 12” on Friday, Oct. 3. First Friday Las Vegas turns to the representation of the number 12 to serve as inspiration for the event.   From hours on a clock, months in a year, signs in the Zodiac; 12 is the number that dictates the rhythm of life.  12 represents that which is completed, that which forms a whole and that which embodies a perfect and harmonious unit, it is the symbol of the closing and of a circle and new beginnings. 12 is the number of years First Friday Las Vegas has been bringing enchantment to the Las Vegas community.

First Friday Las Vegas will continue the popular Arts Row, featuring works of emerging Las Vegas artists, arts and crafts vendors in The Bazaar and live music in The Hub, running down Casino Center from Colorado to Charleston, in the heart of the Arts District.

The popular Green Street on California Avenue, between Main Street and Casino Center Drive, is set to transform into Pure Green Place.  First Friday has always been committed to reducing its carbon footprint and through Pure Green Place will educate and foster action within the community by showcasing alternate methods of transportation, renewable energy and sustainable products.  First Friday organizers continue to make the Kids Zone more interactive and appealing to the young art aficionados while the Think Safe Zone continues with a focus on local charitable organizations, community action and involvement and safety tips for Las Vegans.
