Madame
Tussauds Las Vegas is introducing Marvel’s biggest Avenger - none other than
The Incredible Hulk. At 15-feet high, this is the largest figure by far in the
Madame Tussauds Las Vegas attraction.
To
celebrate his arrival and the pending end of summer for Las Vegas students,
between now and Sunday, Aug. 24, children* who dress as their favorite super
hero or say “Hulk Smash!” will receive complimentary admission to the
attraction.
Faithful
Facebook followers will also have a chance to win. Now until Sunday, Aug. 24,
Facebook users will be asked, “Why are you a Hulk fan?” The winner will receive
an Incredible Hulk Pop! figure signed by Marvel legend Stan Lee. Madame
Tussauds will select the winner and make the announcement via Facebook on
Monday, Aug. 25, the same day most Southern Nevada schools resume session.
CREATING
THE INCREDIBLE HULK
Marvel’s
The Incredible Hulk figure was created by Madame Tussauds’ creative team and
brought to life by sculptors who worked closely with Marvel. Because of its
size, its creation was no ordinary feat.
The
team behind this new figure comprised 15 sculptors led by Principle Sculptor
Louis Wiltshire. The process took a total of three months to complete from
start to finish. The figure was divided into various sections, which were each
sculpted separately.
Over
the course of three months, individual sculptors worked on component pieces,
such as the head, torso and arms, in order to capture every detail. Once the
clay sculpt was completed, each of the sections were molded individually. Due
to the enormous size of the figure, five times as many materials were used to
make the larger than life moulds. The figure was cast in green resin and primed
in green paint. Once the resin cast was ready, Colorist Lisa Burton got to
work. She built up the color on each section with spray cans with seven
different shades of green used with details added by hand in acrylic.
Black
human hair was used for the making of the Hulk’s glossy mane and LOTS of hair
gel. Due to the size, normal methods of hair insertion were unable to be used.
Lengths of Velcro were attached to the head as Hair Stylist Lisa Partridge
meticulously attached the nearly 33 feet of hair required. She then cut and
styled the hair.
Once
all the components were complete, assembling the figure required eight people.
It was the first time the team had seen the figure as a whole. The joints were
then connected and painted over to give the completed look. Finally, the very
last details were added using a ladder to reach the highest spots. He was so
big, scaffolding was needed to install the figure at the attraction!
Hulk’s
debut follows the recent opening of Madame Tussauds Las Vegas’ Marvel Super
Heroes 4D Experience. This interactive spectacle takes place in a
pulse-pounding, 70-seat theater, where the action spills out of the screen over
the audience with thrill-enhancing sensory special effects—from water sprays
and smoke clouds to tremors beneath the feet.
