After
installing eight million pounds of dirt, South Point Arena and Equestrian
Center’s new Priefert Pavilion is officially open for business. South Point
broke ground on construction of the new equestrian facility in spring 2013 to
launch a joint project to expand the current Arena and Equestrian Center and
build a new bowling tournament facility.
The
Priefert Pavilion offers an additional 100,000 square feet of competition space
to the already existing South Point Arena and includes two new world-class
arenas within the center’s unique blueprint. In addition, the current Arena and
Equestrian Center offers more than 1,200 climate-controlled stalls, an indoor
practice arena and a 4,600-seat main show arena. In total the South Point Arena
and Priefert Pavilion now offer more than 240,000 square feet for events.
With
more than 31 weeks of equestrian and rodeo events scheduled in just 2014, the
new arena space creates a unique opportunity to expand on current scheduled
events while also introducing South Point to new events of a much larger
caliber. Since the announcement of the Priefert Pavilion, South Point has added
nine groups to the 2015 event roster that have never before hosted their event
in Las Vegas.
“We
envision the new Priefert Pavilion will allow us to continue enhancing the
premier equestrian facility in the country while increasing our hotel room
occupancy by 15,000 room nights in the first year of operation,” said Ryan
Growney, general manager of South Point Hotel, Casino & Spa. “Not only will
the two additional arenas allow our current events to grow, but our partnership
with the Preifert family will allow us to coordinate some of the most unique
equestrian events in the country. This is a win-win scenario for South Point
and Las Vegas as new groups continue to bring their business to our city.”
South
Point is Las Vegas’ only property to offer three state-of-the art transformable
arenas suitable for the city’s vibrant event scene. South Point, commonly
referred to as “Vegas Cowboy Central,” is home to a variety of exceptional
events, including the Arabian Breeders World Cup, Cowboy Mounted Shooting
Association’s (CMSA) Western U.S. Championship, Indian National Finals Rodeo,
multiple National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Cutting Horse events and the
World Series of Team Roping. In addition, the Arena hosts collegiate basketball
tournaments, BMX competitions, the annual Amazing Las Vegas Comic Con, Western
lifestyle expos, the annual Art N’ Ink Festival and a variety of other
entertainment niches.
