Chuck
Trickle always looks forward to the annual Chris Trickle Father’s Day Weekend
Special on Saturday night at The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway – even
though it has been five years since he stopped driving in the event named for
his late son.
“This is an annual thing that the track has
kept going and it’s been a wonderful, wonderful (weekend),” said Trickle, The
Bullring’s 2003 Super Late Model champion. “Some extra guys come in to race
just because of that race, so it’s exciting. I’m really thankful that the
Speedway keeps this up and I’m thankful that people still remember (Chris) and
think about him.”
Trickle,
who turns 70 on June 19, said he is even toying with the idea of racing the
familiar light blue No. 70 that was synonymous with his late son and that Chuck
drove to five Father’s Day Weekend wins.
“I’m not
going to be competitive – it’s an old car – but I’m thinking about getting it
out there and going racing,” Trickle said. “The Father’s Day race is going to
be special this year because of my age and the car number.”
The annual Father’s Day Weekend Special at The
Bullring is named in honor of Chris Trickle, a popular and promising NASCAR
driver from Las Vegas who died in 1998 of injuries he sustained in a
still-unsolved drive-by shooting a year earlier. In addition to the annual
Father’s Day races, a small park behind the grandstands at The Bullring is
named the Chris Trickle Children’s Park.
The highlight of the Chris Trickle Father’s
Day Weekend Special will be a pair of 35-lap Super Late Model features. Also on
the racing card will be NASCAR Super Stocks, Bombers, Grand American Modifieds,
Legend Cars, Thunder Cars and Bandoleros. Spectator gates open at 5 p.m.,
qualifying begins at 5, an on-track autograph session with all drivers will be
held from 5:50 to 6:40 and heat races and features will start at 7.
The
first 100 dads through the gates will receive a certificate for a Fabulous
Freddy’s Best Exterior Wash and prizes will be given away throughout the night.
The
Bullring is one of the best entertainment values in Southern Nevada with
affordable ticket prices and family-friendly concession prices including $1 hot
dogs, $1 Coca-Cola products and $2 Budweiser beer. Tickets can be purchased at
the gate or in advance by visiting or calling the LVMS ticket office at (702)
644-4444 or online at www.lvms.com. Discounted tickets are available with an
advance purchase.
