Acclaimed
Las Vegas-based artist Angel Delgado will present a new series of paintings and
sculptures in a solo exhibition titled "Constancy" opening at the
Amanda Harris Gallery of Contemporary Art on June 14 with a special opening
reception.
Inspired
by the months Delgado was imprisoned in Cuba for a controversial performance
art piece in 1990, the works examine the unique materials available to
prisoners with limited access to supplies. The pieces include carved soap blocks,
drawings on handkerchiefs and paintings. Delgado’s impressive work is largely
based on the limitations, restrictions, prohibitions and controls that are
frequently imposed on human beings in society.
Delgado
has shown his work internationally for over 15 years, including solo shows in
Havana, Madrid, Mexico City, Puerto Vallarta, Istanbul, and Pittsburgh.
Now
in Las Vegas, Delgado’s exhibit will be celebrated with an opening wine
reception and artist talk at the Amanda Harris Gallery on June 14, and a
special video performance will be held on July 10.
