How To Prepare
for The Las Vegas Epicurean Event
Every
year some of Las Vega’s famous and most popular restaurants come together for an
epic feast; the Las Vegas Epicurean
Affair hosted by James Beard award-winning chef Julian Serrano. A multitude of
fantastic food, fine wine and tasty desserts all come together to form a delectable
fabulous experience.
This
event takes over all three pools at The Palazzo and The Venetian and features food
booths that range from Delmonico’s Steakhouse,
Capital Grille and Ferraro’s and Carmine’s. Each food group is well represented from
sushi, to steak, to Italian to Mexican and more. There is so much delicious food to sample
that I believe that a short course in how to prepare for this experience is in
order.
Three days
prior to event start to prepare your system by eating very lightly. Items such as
yogurt and fruit for breakfast and soup for lunch and dinner; day two before
the event pretty much the same items and then the day before
the event would highly recommend light soups and water , coffee or tea. Day of
the event now this is very important, because your system will soon be
bombarded with a plethora of different food types and inviting cocktails and
fine wines and decadent desserts stick with the same menus of light soups and
water and maybe fruit and toast for breakfast.

Six o’clock
arrives and you check in and stroll out onto the pool deck at The Palazzo. Immediately
the aroma of cooking food wafts towards you. What is at the Il Mulino booth,
well only fragrant melts in your mouth mushroom ravioli! Wait the Carmine’s
booth has a huge portion of their famous lasagna with all fresh ingredients and
with two different cheeses. The list goes
on with restaurant samplings from Aquaknox, B&B Ristorante, Bouchon, Buddy
V’s, Burger Bar, Carmine’s, Carnevino, DB Brasserie, Delmonico Steakhouse,
Ferraro’s, Herbs & Rye, Il Mulino, Simon Restaurant & Lounge, TAO Asian
Bistro and Wolfgang Puck’s Postrio, and more. Another highlight of the evening were
the handmade Dosa’s from Mint Indian Bistro, a dosa is a thin savory crepe made
with fermented rice and lentil batter and is served with coconut chutney and
spicy sambhar.
With delicious
offerings from these restaurants that have made Vegas one of the finest
epicurean destinations in the world it is very important to pace yourself. Along
with the food are fresh cocktails and one especially tasty one that was a watermelon
margarita! Save room for dessert with one
of my favorites of the night coming from Simon’s Restaurant and I could have
had more than one of the fruit loop marshmallow treats!
Proceeds
from the evening will benefit NvRA’s educational and scholarship programs,
including ProStart®, a national high school culinary skill and restaurant
management program. So if you have not
attended an Epicurean Affair be sure and put it on your bucket list!
