Wedding
cakes continue to be a statement for brides and a focal point of a wedding,
with elaborate designs, beautiful colors and clever toppers appearing on
reception tables across the country. Brides and grooms are always looking for
special treats or favors to show their appreciation for their guests. A new
trend for 2014: cakelets!
Pastry
Chef Tammy Alana, who oversees exquisite collections of desserts for both Alizé
at Palms Resort Casino and Andre’s at Monte Carlo Resort and Casino, creates masterful
cakelets—miniature versions of her signature elegant and elaborate cakes.
Cakelets give Chef Alana a delightful way to showcase her craft while providing
newlyweds an innovative and personalized way to serve cake at their reception.
Inspired by wedding cupcakes and the burgeoning cakelet trend – as well as her
own upcoming 2015 marriage to Alizé Executive Chef Mark Purdy – Chef Alana
creates intricate, miniature wedding cakes in a variety of flavors.
“I
have always been intrigued by miniatures and I love wedding cake design; my
inspiration for our cakelets is a cross between these two things,” says Chef
Alana. “It's fun to create something on a much smaller scale while not holding
back on any of the details. I also feel it gives great energy to the end of the
meal and everyone seems to have so much fun with it. It's different!”
She
readily accommodates requests for her masterful wedding cakes and special
occasion cakes, too. Recent requests have included:
Monograms
for wedding take-home gifts
Recreations
of original wedding cakes for anniversary celebrations
Tiffany
& Co.-themed boxes for bachelorette parties
Personalized
creations for bridal and baby showers, as well as birthdays
Chef Alana can create anything from a single
customized cakelet for an anniversary celebration to hundreds for one single
event. Lead time to order is at least one week. Cakelets typically come as
3-tiers with the bottom tier 3 ½ inches in diameter. She works closely with the
couple or the event planner to understand what the objective is for the
cakelets.
“I
have brides-to-be and couples request the cakelets for the bachelorette party
and wedding itself. But you know what I’m anxious to create? Cakelets for
gentlemen coming to the restaurant to pop the question. All he would have to do
is put the ring right on top of a customized cakelet and he is good to go,”
beams Chef Alana.
The
cakelets are available to be served as part of wedding celebrations and special
events hosted at Andre’s or Alizé.
