In an
effort to raise awareness and pay tribute to the millions of women and children
– particularly girls – worldwide who spend several hours collecting safe water
every day, ONE DROP hosted its second annual ‘Walk for Water’ on Saturday, Oct.
5, from 8 – 12 p.m.
Honorary
co-chairs, UFC Hall of Famer Forrest Griffin and Springs Preserve Board of
Trustees Vice Chair Jenna Morton, lead approximately 500 walkers on a 5.6 mile
journey down the Las Vegas Strip, as they drew attention to ONE DROP’s global
initiative to develop innovative water access and management projects in rural
regions of the world.
A
celebration ceremony was held at the northeast parking lot of Mandalay Bay
Resort and Casino to greet walkers after their trek from South Point Hotel,
Casino & Spa earlier in the morning. Mayor Carolyn Goodman, One Drop’s CEO
Catherine B. Bachand, Cirque’s Senior Vice President of Resident Shows Jerry
Nadal and President of Mandalay Bay Chuck Bowling addressed the walkers, and
officially proclaimed October 5, 2013, as ‘ONE DROP Walk for Water Day.’
Multiple artists from Cirque du Soleil kept the celebration going, as live
music and a children’s circus tent provided entertainment through the
afternoon.
