The Pearl inside Palms Casino Resort was
literally shaking from the greatness of hard rock that filled the venue with
the bass and shattering vocals of both Korn and opener Asking Alexandria. After
opening performances by Love and Death and Asking Alexandria, Korn took the
stage and didn’t disappoint. Performing songs that solidified their position as
one of the best live rock bands around including “Falling Away From Me” and
“Are You Ready,” Korn also performed songs from their newly released album The
Paradigm Shift which just hit retailers on Oct. 8.
The
Grammy Award-winning multiplatinum hard rock innovators were in full force with
the strong lineup of Jonathan Davis (Vocals), James “Munky” Shaffer (Guitar),
Brian “Head” Welch (Guitar), Reggie “Fieldy” Arvizu (Bass) and Ray Luzier
(Drums). The night was accented with the “kage” – a large cage-like area that
took over the stage behind the band, full of some of the group’s most devoted
fans.
So far
in 2013, the rock luminaries have headlined the sold-out Rock On The Range
Festival (more than 40,000 in Columbus, OH) and Rocklahoma Festival, played
coveted main stage spots at Download (U.K.), Rock am Ring (Germany) and Rock im
Park (Germany) and toured Europe.
The
Paradigm Shift marks the emotional return of co-founding guitarist Brian “Head”
Welch for his first album with Korn since 2003’s Take a Look in the Mirror, and
it serves as the follow-up to the band’s 2011 critically acclaimed
trend-setting dubstep metal hybrid, The Path of Totality, which debuted Top 10
on the Billboard Top 200 chart and was named Revolver Magazine’s “Album of the
Year.” The Paradigm Shift is also Korn’s
first time working with super producer Don Gilmore (Linkin Park’s The Hybrid
Theory) who recorded the album with the band at Buck Owens’ studio in their
original hometown Bakersfield and at Los Angeles’ famed NRG Recording Studios.
