Friday night, celebrated British guitar hero
Mark Knopfler put on a fantastic live performance at the intimate Pearl Concert
Theater inside Palms Casino Resort. The tour was in support of his newest
release Privateering, marking one of the first times the west coast audience
was treated to live performances from the new album. He performed “Corned Beef
City,” “I Used To Could” and, title track, “Privateering” from the album as
well as hits from his Dire Straits days like “Local Hero” and “Romeo And
Juliet.”
Knopfler,
who earlier this year completed a 70-date sell-out European tour, brought with
him the seven-piece band that helped create Privateering – Richard Bennett
(guitar), Jim Cox (piano), Guy Fletcher (keyboards), John McCusker (fiddle),
Mike McGoldrick (whistle and flute), Ian Thomas (drums) and Glenn Worf (bass).
Privateering
is Knopfler’s first double album of new music in his entire recording career.
Recorded at Knopfler’s award-winning British Grove Studios in West London,
Privateering is a collection of tough tales of real people, living hard lives
in difficult times.
A
multiple Grammy award winner as the lead singer/songwriter for Dire Straits,
Knopfler combined his wry lyrics with his guitar prowess to create such major
hits as “Money For Nothing,” “Sultans Of Swing,” “Romeo and Juliet” and “Walk
of Life.” He has collaborated with artists such as Bob Dylan, Randy Newman,
Emmylou Harris and Van Morrison, as well as scoring several films including
Cal, Local Hero, Princess Bride and A Shot at Glory.
