This
weekend, in celebration of the downtown property’s first year in Las Vegas, the
D Las Vegas Casino Hotel hosted three massive concerts for thousands of fans on
the Fremont Street Experience (FSE).
Thursday,
September 26 – Uncle Kracker
Kicking
off the weekend-long celebration, Uncle Kracker delivered a high-energy
performance on Thursday night. Before inviting his fellow Detroiter to take the
stage, the D CEO and Owner Derek Stevens welcomed the crowd and said, “I’m so
proud of what we have been able to do downtown in the past year. We’re just a
small part of this great growth story and we’re only a part of it because you
all are a part of it.”
Sporting
a casual red v-neck and jeans, Uncle Kracker opened the show with his single
“Nobody’s Sad on a Saturday Night” from his most recent album “Midnight
Special.” The country rocker had fans singing along all night to hits “Follow
Me,” “Drift Away,” “Smile” and more as well as covers of rock classics like
Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Sweet Home Alabama.”

Friday,
September 27 – Stone Temple Pilots feat. Chester Bennington
Friday,
the party rocked on as Stone Temple Pilots took the stage with new front man
and lead vocalist Chester Bennington.
Stevens again introduced the band, firing up the Fremont Street crowd after
saying, “This is the greatest place to have a party I’ve ever been to!”
As
green smoke billowed from behind the drum set, the longtime rockers emerged to
thunderous cheers, kicking off the set with “Down.” The song was a fitting way for Bennington to
introduce himself as the newest member of STP, belting the line, “Pleased to
meet you, nice to know me.” The band parted ways with longtime front man Scott
Weiland in February and re-outfitted this spring with Chester Bennington, who
is best known as the lead singer of Linkin Park.
The
ecstatic crowd sang along to smash hits “Vasoline,” “Dead & Bloated,”
“Plush,” “Interstate Love Song” and “Sex Type Thing” while the show streamed
live high overhead on the Viva Vision canopy. Fans also got a taste of STP’s
new sound, rocking out to “Out of Time,” the first released track off their
upcoming EP High Rise which will be the first production featuring Bennington’s
vocals.
The
scheduled set list wasn’t enough for the passionate audience who cheered for an
encore until the band came roaring back on stage for a few extra songs.
Kid
Rock – Saturday, September 28, 2013:
What an amazing show! Great energy Kid Rock gives his fans all that he has!!
The
three-day celebration finished with a bang thanks to a wild show by five-time
Grammy Award nominee and multi-platinum selling artist Kid Rock on Saturday
night. Derek Stevens welcomed the rock superstar saying, “We’ve had a lot of
fun this last year and now we’re kicking it up a notch. There’s nobody I wanted
more for this show than the guy from my hometown, Kid Rock!”
Kid
Rock opened his set with hit song, “Devil Without A Cause” as a white curtain
dropped revealing the band to the massive crowd gathered around the Third
Street Stage just outside of the D. The bad boy rock star looked every bit the
part in a black fedora, gold aviators, black T-shirt, dark wash Levi’s and red
Jordans. He engaged with fans throughout the show, even telling first timers
he’d ease them into the concert and to prepare for a crazy time.
The
band performed a range of fan favorites including “Cowboy,” “Wasting Time,”
“God Bless Saturday,” “Rock Bottom Blues,” “Born Free,” “Only God Knows Why,”
and “All Summer Long.” Fans were wowed with pyrotechnics when ten-foot flames
blasted from atop Kid Rock’s touring sign during the performance of smash hit
“Bawitdaba.” Kid Rock gave an incredibly diverse set, spinning the tracks for a
DJ cameo as he blasted confetti into the crowd and later crooning a soulful
guitar duet of “Picture,” with bandmate Shannon Curfman. He closed out the
high-energy show saying, “I want to thank the D for putting on this little shindig!”
as the crowd roared with applause.
Notable
guests on Saturday night also included Academy Award-winning rapper DJ Paul of
Three 6 Mafia and retired NFL player Jevone Kearse, who enjoyed the show from
the D’s VIP booths on Fremont Street.
The
epic three-night bash was a celebration of the property’s successful first year
in business. In just one year, the D has become a hip, go-to spot in downtown
Las Vegas. The completely renovated property features a sleek look and an
entirely new gaming experience, entertainment and dining options as well as
remodeled contemporary rooms and suites. The unique two-level casino boasts the
latest in slots and table games manned by the D’s playful dancing dealers on
the first floor, and transports guests back in time to old-school Vegas with
its Vintage Casino on the second floor. Guests can enjoy drinks inside the
casino at LONGBAR – the longest bar in Nevada – or on Fremont Street at D Bar
where world champion flair bartenders send bottles and glasses flying through
the air. For delicious dining 24/7, the D offers contemporary American fare in
a stylish setting at the D Grill, and serves up Detroit’s legendary Coney Dogs
and more at American Coney Island. Prominent Restaurateur Joe Vicari delivers
his award-winning restaurant concept to the D with Joe Vicari's Andiamo Italian
Steakhouse.
