September
1st marks the beginning of the dolphin drive hunting season in Taiji, Japan,
where thousands of dolphins are slaughtered ever year, as seen in the
Oscar-winning documentary "The Cove". This year, as in previous
years, we will once again peacefully gather in various locations around the
world to show that we will no longer accept these abuses to our friends in the
sea. Join us for this day of action. Please note that we do not condone any
racial slurs, comments, or actions that could be in any way perceived as
anti-Japanese. Japan dolphins Day is about bringing people together, building
lasting bonds, and forging constructive dialogues. Our message on this
particular day is to those in government who are enabling these senseless
slaughters to continue, as well as actively keeping the truth from the Japanese
people.

Q:
What is Japan Dolphins Day?
A: An
annual, peaceful and positive media event, with dolphin supporters coming
together in cities around the world. Our goal is to raise awareness of the
annual dolphin drive hunts in Taiji and elsewhere in the world; and to
highlight the links between these slaughters and the global captive industry.
Q:
How are these events going to prevent cruelty to dolphins?
A: By
hosting events in highly visable public locations, we are letting both the
Japanese government and the world know that these crimes against nature are
unacceptable. We can speak out against this atrocity loudly and clearly - and
in a positive way.
Q:
Why should these events be positive?
A:
This campaign has never been against the Japanese people. We do not condone
racial slurs, comments, or actions that could be perceived as anti-Japanese.
Our message on this day is to those in government who are enabling the
slaughters to continue, and to the captivity industry that exploits dolphins.
Q:
When are these events happening?
A:
The dolphin drive hunting season begins on Sept 1st of every year in Taiji,
Japan. The events are taking place on the same date globally.
Q:
Which organizations/people are involved?
A:
These are ongoing, annual events that Ric O'Barry has organized and participated
in for many years. However, there are many other groups and organizations that
have organizated their own events. Anyone can be involved, whether you are part
of a marine conservation organizations, or simply a concerned individual. The
more people who celebrate on this day, the more impact we will have.
Talking
Points:
-Honor
the dolphins which have been, and will be, killed in the slaughter.
-NOT
send anti-Japanese messages of any kind, and be respectful of Japanese people.
-Send
a peaceful message to the Japanese government that we do not condone the
capture of, or continued slaughter of dolphins.
-Captivity
kills, don't buy a ticket to a dolphinarium, or a captive swim-with-dolphins
excursion.
-Many
Japanese people do not know about the drive fishery killing of dolphins, and
actually oppose it when they understand what is happening
-We
support the Japanese peoples right to know about the contamination of dolphin
and whale meat, so our concerns include the welfare of the people of Japan, and
ensuring the public safeguards so that no meat is sold laced with mercury and
radioactivity.
