Opening
Night Guest Artists & Repertoire
The
2013-14 season will open on Saturday, September 28th with the first Masterworks
Series concert called “Operatic Love.”
Guest conductor Case Scaglione, who conducted last season’s “An American
Portrait” concert, returns to lead a program of opera arias and orchestral
works. The guest vocalists for this
concert will be soprano Suzanne Vinnik and tenor Cody Austin. They will perform works by Puccini, Verdi and
Mozart from operas La bohème, La Traviata, The Marriage of Figaro and Don
Giovanni alongside orchestral works (full program details follow.)
This
concert will be the first time the Las Vegas Philharmonic has performed opera
repertoire in Reynolds Hall. For native
Las Vegan Suzanne Vinnik the concert will mark her Las Vegas Philharmonic and
her Reynolds Hall debuts and will be her first hometown performance since
2008. Suzanne, 26, has been praised by
Opera News magazine for her “beautifully molded, vividly communicative
phrasing.” In April she made her role
and house debut as Violetta in La Traviata at Florida Grand Opera.
The opening
night celebration includes a pre-concert Cocktail Party at The Smith Center at
6:00PM. Tickets are $100 per person and
available now from the Las Vegas Philharmonic, phone 702.258.5438.
Guest
Conductors
Guest
conductors have been engaged for the 2013-14 season as the orchestra continues
its Music Director search into a second season.
In addition to previous announced guest conductors, David Lockington has
been invited back to lead the “Rising Star” Masterworks Series concert on March
8th, 2014 following his performance with the Las Vegas Philharmonic at its
season finale concert, “Celestial Bodies,” in April. Additions to this concert program include
Sibelius’s Second Symphony and Mussorgsky’s Prelude to Khovanshchina, “Dawn
Over the Moscow River” that will be performed alongside Tchaikovsky’s First
Piano Concerto featuring soloist Alexander Schimpf. Associate Conductor of the Milwaukee Symphony
Orchestra, Francesco Lecce-Chong, has been engaged to conduct two performances
of the classic film Casablanca as part of the Pops Series on February 15th,
2014 and Assistant Conductor of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Rei Hotoda, has
been engaged to lead ten Youth Concert Series concerts in January 2014.
Guest
conductors previously announced are: Case Scaglione (Sept 28 – “Operatic
Love”), Stuart Chafetz (Oct 12 – “Dancing & Romancing”), Steven Jarvi (Nov
23 - “Love of Country”), Bob Bernhardt (Dec 7 – “We Love the Holidays!”),
Donato Cabrera (Jan 18 – “Battle Born–Nevada Proud!”), Matt Catingub, who conducted
the orchestra’s 4TH WITH THE PHIL concert (April 5 – “Love Vintage Las Vegas
Style”), Alondra de la Parra (April 26 – “Love Around the World”) and Sarah
