Grand Finale Poker Champion Crowned & Poker Queen Crowned At Golden Nugget Las Vegas!

The Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino just completed its sixth annual Grand Poker Series June 1 – July 4, 2013 in the property’s luxurious event center, The Grand.

This month-long series featured more than 270 poker tournaments including Omaha high/low, HORSE, Badugi, Mixed Games, 7 Card Stud and plenty of heart-pounding No Limit Hold ‘em action, as well as cash games, special tournaments for seniors and ladies, and two signature bracelet events - the Poker Queen Ladies Championship and the Grand Finale No Limit Championship.

With increased player counts in each of its first five years, the 2013 Grand Poker Series welcomed its highest number of participants yet with more than 25,000 players from all over the globe, including 371 players and a $360,000 prize pool in the Grand Finale. The complete 2013 Grand Poker Series prize pool totaled more than $2,000,000.

The Golden Nugget crowned Robert “Guru” Kuhn as the Grand Finale Champion on Thursday, July 4. Kuhn took home the first place prize of $86,367 in addition to the gold and diamond Poker Shark bracelet. He outlasted a field of 371 players including over an hour of grueling heads up play to win the title.

One lucky lady also took home the title of Poker Queen during the series. On June 29, Dianna Lee Norman bought in for $240 and won $17,782 and the gold and diamond Poker Queen bracelet valued at $5,000 in a two day ladies-only tournament.

In addition to the Grand Finale and Poker Queen champions, the Golden Nugget partnered with Poker Player Newspaper for a special Poker Player of the Year Tournament which was held on July 4. The Poker Player tournament awarded Christopher Wallace with the grand prize championship gold ring and trophy.

“What makes the Grand Poker Series at the Golden Nugget so unique and successful is that we listen to our players, watch the competition, and truly customize the month-long event into what we believe is a great poker series of variety, affordability, good play and friendly service,” said John Colville, director of poker and developer of the Grand Poker Series.

The Golden Nugget Las Vegas has been the home of such popular TV shows as Poker After Dark on NBC, High Stakes Poker on GSN and Doubles Poker on GSN, as well as the host casino for the popular WPT Boot Camp.
