Tegan & Sara |
The
Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas kicked off the Spring Concert Series at the Boulevard
Pool on Wednesday, April 10 and will continue to heat things up with more
world-class performances throughout the coming week.
Indie
duo Tegan and Sara started the series off with a bang, bringing the electro-pop
sounds of their January release Heartthrob to the Boulevard Pool at The
Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas on Wednesday. The sisters, who have been performing
for 13 years, first gained notoriety among fans with the 2004 breakthrough
record So Jealous. Since then, the duo has collaborated with world-famous DJs
like Tiesto and David Guetta, allowing the group to blur the lines of both
indie rock and dance genres.
Legendary
80s band New Order, continued the series on Thursday, April 11 with a powerful
and riveting set, combining timeless hits like “Blue Monday” and “Temptation”
with Joy Division tracks “Atmosphere” and “Transmission.” Earlier in the night,
former guitarist of The Smiths, Johnny Marr, put on a nostalgic performance
with fan-favorites including “How Soon Is Now?” Comprised of three former Joy
Division members, New Order formed in 1980 after Joy Division’s lead singer,
Ian Curtis, committed suicide. The group has since gone on to become one of the
most influential new wave bands in history.
Vampire
Weekend and special guest Tanlines brought their beach-inspired dance tunes,
perfectly suited for the Boulevard Pool, to the stage on Friday, April 12. The
group, which came together in 2006, released its self-titled debut album in
2008 and quickly became one of the year's most popular indie releases. The
group’s second album, Contra, was released in early 2010.
The
Yeah Yeah Yeah’s rocked Las Vegas Boulevard last night, wrapping up the first
week of the series. Ferocious and captivating lead singer Karen O took the
group’s slew of hits, like “Heads Will Roll” and “Maps” up a few decibels with
her supercharged performance. Just a few days before the release of new album,
Mosquito, the trio is sure to be catapulted into rock n’ roll stardom once
again.
Next
up for the Spring Concert Series is Of Monsters and Men and Local Natives on
Wednesday, April 17, Hot Chip with special guest Four Tet on Thursday, April
18, The Postal Service at The Chelsea on Friday, April 19 and Band of Horses
with special guest Jake Bugg on Saturday, April 20.
The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas features artists
at the forefront of the touring world and emerging artists that will inspire
the next musical movements coupled with spectacularly-designed,
technology-driven venues. Perched high above The Las Vegas Strip, Boulevard
Pool is a multilevel pool experience by day and an intimate outdoor concert
venue with unobstructed sightlines of both the stage and The Strip by night.
