Las
Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort (LVSSR) raised nearly $20,000 benefiting the
Mt. Charleston Volunteer Fire Department, National Ski Patrol’s avalanche
awareness programs and Outside Las Vegas Foundation at Who’s On Board, its 50th
anniversary celebration on Friday, Nov. 16, 2012.
More
than 250 guests attended the event that took place at Amanda Harris Gallery of
Contemporary Art and The Lady Silvia. The evening included a cocktail
reception, art show and silent auction. LVSSR challenged fifty local artists to
create original pieces using snowboard cutouts as their canvases. A wide
variety of graffiti artists, sculptors, painters and tattoo artists donated
pieces to be auctioned off for charity.
The
soiree was part of Project 50, a series of events happening this season in
honor of LVSSR’s 50th anniversary. The resort opens on Friday, Nov. 23 for the
2012/13 season.
“For
50 years, the Las Vegas community has supported LVSSR and this event was about
celebrating this milestone and giving back to the community,” said Kevin
Stickelman, LVSSR’s president and general manager. As a thank you to those who
attended the VIP reception, LVSSR gave each guest a complimentary lift ticket
to be used this historic season.
“The charities we selected share our values.
Each group works to get youth involved in the outdoors as well as promoting
safe outdoor recreation,” said Stickelman. “I want to thank the artists who
donated their time and talent so that we could support these organizations.”
LVSSR thanked each artist with a gift that included day passes to the area.
