SURFS
UP!! Now at Planet Hollywood a new exciting foot tapping sing along show! Sparkling
and bubbling over with fun SURF the Musical celebrates the music of the ever
young Beach Boys! Expect your favorite songs but sometimes re-arranged in new and
different ways. This does not detract from the songs but enhances them and
continues to re-enforce that these songs are iconic.
What is
SURF The Musical about? It is a love story with song and dance. Tanner loves
Brooke but leaves their idyllic beach town to pursue his dreams of “making it
in the big city” with his musical abilities. Soon he realizes that sometimes
you go away to only be drawn back in. When Tanner returns he finds the love of his
life Brooke changed and affected deeply by the death of her mother. She is now
in the arms of the town’s bad boy Rip.
After much soul searching and angst these two are reunited in their
love.
However
on the way to re-discovering their love…fun sets and exciting musical numbers!
The audience went wild with “California Girls,” “Help Me Rhonda,” and “Good
Vibrations!” An LED screen provides one
of the highlights, a Ferris wheel ride. Yes a Ferris Wheel ride on stage!
Leads
Tanner (Marshal Kennedy Carolan) and Brooke (Lauren Zakrin) chemistry is real
and plays well onstage. Bad boy Rip (Alex Ringler) plays his part to perfection with
the swagger and rock hard abs that had the ladies in the audience cheering! For
me the best singing voice in the entire cast is Broadway veteran Robert Torti
who plays Brooke’s father. Audience favorite Adrian Zmed (remember TJ Hooker)
plays Nick who owns Nick’s Surf Shack and he sings along with gusto and flair.
A wild
musical ride that will have you leaving the theater with “Good Vibrations!”
