FLAT
DADDY will be screening at the 2012 Las Vegas Film Festival on July 22nd. FLAT DADDY follows four military families over
the course of a year to explore the impact that the war and its aftermath is
having on the homefront. One of the four
families we follow in our film -- that of Gold Star Mother Marina Vance --
resides in Henderson, and we spent a large amount of time filming in the Las
Vegas area and working with the local Blue Star Mothers group. Marina and many of the local Blue Star
Mothers will be in attendance at the screening
.
Only
1% of Americans currently serve in the U.S. Military, and their families have
borne the disproportionate burden of more than a decade at war. Many have
turned to "Flat Daddies" and "Heroes on a Stick,"
life-sized cardboard cutouts of their husbands, wives, parents and children
serving overseas, to ease the pain of repeated deployments. Using these
two-dimensional surrogates as a connecting thread, FLAT DADDY follows four such
families over the course of a year to explore the lasting impact of the war on
those left behind.
