The
Nevada Association of REALTORS® (NVAR) has joined forces with food banks
throughout the state to donate food and funds to help them feed local children
in need this summer.
NVAR
President Blane Johnson said NVAR is urging its nearly 14,000 members statewide
to donate to local food banks such as Three Square in Las Vegas and the Food
Bank of Northern Nevada in Reno to help them feed needy children, especially
during the summer months when the need is greater because they are not in
school.
“Every
dollar donated to Three Square provides three meals to a hungry child in
Southern Nevada,” Johnson said. “Just think what we could do if every REALTOR®
in Nevada contributes just $2 to their local food bank. We’re giving our
members all sorts of ways to help, making it easy for them to donate on the
NVAR and food bank websites. We’re also giving them suggestions on how they can
help, like asking our members to charge a nominal fee for the coffee they serve
in their offices each day and then donating the proceeds to this effort.”
Nevada
REALTORS® are already responding. For example, Johnson said one broker is
donating $5 for every closed real estate transaction from her office in July to
this “Feed the Kids” effort.
According
to local food banks, one out of every six households in Nevada struggle with
hunger. To donate or get more information, visit www.NVAR.org. NVAR also posted
a video about the program at

In
Southern Nevada, donors can help Three Square “raise a fork to end hunger” by
attending its Sept. 20 DISH Las Vegas dining event, with tickets going on sale
July 1 at www.ThreeSquare.org.
In
Northern Nevada, Johnson said members can also attend the Making Hunger History
Concert on July 6 featuring Grammy-nominated blues artist Ruthie Foster at the
Hawkins Amphitheater at Bartley Ranch Regional Park in Reno. Proceeds benefit
the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. For information, visit www.FBNN.org.
