Summer
break is just around the corner and whether parents are looking for activities
to fill the pending “camp gap weeks” or the entire summer, BODIES…The
Exhibition and Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition present two enlightening
options at a great price. Conveniently located on the Atrium Level of Luxor
Hotel and Casino, students can enjoy a 30 percent discount while the entire
family escapes the sizzling temperatures and experiences two of the most
intriguing and educational attractions Las Vegas has to offer; all without
stepping one foot on the casino floor.
Cooler
than any textbook, BODIES…The Exhibition showcases real human bodies and organs
in a way that brings anatomy class to life. Students discover the inner
workings of the miraculous machine they inhabit by exploring the skeletal,
muscular, nervous, circulatory, respiratory, digestive and reproductive systems
with authentic, three-dimensional specimens. Younger children learn interesting
facts such as their bones grow faster in the springtime and that there are
100,000 miles of blood vessels in the human body. In an effort to promote
healthy and safe decisions, teenagers get an up close and personal look at a
smoker’s lung riddled with tar and a cirrhotic liver destroyed by alcohol
abuse.
2012
marks 100 years since the infamous launch and eventual sinking of the Ship of
Dreams and at Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition, that history lesson comes alive
through dramatic room recreations and authentic artifacts recovered from the
depths of the Atlantic. Upon entering The Exhibition, guests are given a
boarding pass with the story of a real person who boarded Titanic, beginning
their experience of what life was like in 1912.
For example, the 700 third-class passengers shared two bathtubs. The
journey continues as guests get a picture taken on the Grand Staircase, glance
inside cabins and test their ability to withstand the frigid temperatures that
passengers endured that fateful night by placing their hand on an iceberg.
Before discovering the fate of their passenger on the Memorial Wall, students
stand before the largest artifact ever recovered – a 15 ton section of the
Ship’s hull appropriately called the “Big Piece.”
